After taking the timer apart to see why it would not turn I found the timer motor was jammed. Taking the motor apart I found a broken gear. My GE dryer from the late 80's/early 90's was squealing when it would start up, belt or bearing I was thinking. I found a manual online that covered my model and I watched a video on this site that showed me how to take it all apart, mine was a bit different but the principles were the same. I took it apart and added some quick-disconnects to 2 wires so next time I can take the front panel off easily. When I got to the bearing it looked worn but not bad so I cleaned it and put it back. ... Read more

Supports the rear dryer drum for smooth, quiet rotation. Replace if you hear squeaking, screeching, or thumping during cycles. Verify fit with your model.
First symptoms were squeaking drum. This is probably when new glide strips might have been all that we needed. But I put off fixing it... and I put it off some more. Noises got louder, squeaking became screeching, then it started to vibrate loudly. The front drum bearing (really just a plastic arch that the drum rides on) had broken, and with the drum in a canted position, the rear bearing sleeve got messed up too. I ordered the front drum support bearing, and also a rear drum bearing... Read more
Timer knob assembly for dryers. Mounts on the control panel timer stem. Replace if knob is cracked, broken, stripped inside, or missing for proper cycle control.
I actually called a repair service in our area. The serviceman asked questions and detected that I didn't need a timer unit but thought it was just a knob that was required. He offered to come out but the expense would be considerable. I am SO relieved that it was indeed the knob, and the dryer was fixed. In this time in our lives, every penny counts. I must applaud the serviceman for his honesty and dedication to his trade. He directed me to this website, but also added if there were any... Read more

Fix a dryer that won't start, keeps running with door open, or stops mid-cycle. This door switch replacement is a common DIY repair taking 15-30 minutes.
We ordered a door switch, dryer latch and strike plate. We realized that we only needed to replace the door switch. We watched a few videos and then replaced the switch. We couldn’t find a video for our model but they did give us a pretty good idea about what we needed to do. The hardest part was getting the original door switch out, all of the videos we watched showed us that it would pop out with a little pressure from a flat head screw driver, from the front of the switch. We could not get... Read more

Upon examination of the dryer, I noticed that the belt was intact, though a little worn and hard. However, I noticed that the belt had came of the idler pulley. So I put it back on and had the owners try it out on their next load of wash. It, once again failed to keep the drum turning. So I ordered a new belt and idler pulley (order # 8676164). I found it necessary to remove the drum, in order to change out the new pulley. However, while trying to reinstall the drum, we damaged some of the... Read more

The Interlock Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE electric and gas dryers. This safety component monitors the door closure, preventing operation if the door is not securely closed and latched. The switch measures 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.
Symptoms of a faulty interlock switch include:
Causes relate to the internal component contacting the door frame over 50,000 open/close cycles potentially exposing wiring to wear. Regular cleaning the external switch area prevents dust or lint buildup skewing performance.
This genuine GE switch is compatible with Hotpoint and RCA dryers as well.
Note: Can be used as a dishwasher door switch on specific models. Check your model number for the most accurate results.
The full story: Dishwasher stopped running mid-cycle. When I first began troubleshooting I tried manually advancing the timer knob, and the machine would run. That led me to believe that the actual timer assembly was bad, so I replaced it. The dishwasher ran fine for a day, and then the same problem came back. This time, however, I also had to push in on the door to get it to run. I looked around online, and someone suggested that the door latch wasn't closing tightly enough. I adjusted the... Read more
