This defrost thermostat helps control the refrigerator/freezer defrost cycle by sensing evaporator temperature and allowing the heater to run when frost removal is needed. Replaces a failed thermostat to restore normal defrost operation. What it does:
Condenser was running, evaporator fan was not. My frig has the obsolete adaptive defrost timer card in it. Tried the "trigger door switch 4 times quickly" to force the frig into defrost mode - would not work. If the defrost thermostat fails in the proper state (open, I think), the frig can't enter defrost mode and the condensation on the evaporator coils will freeze solid. The melting ice in the dispenser storage will eventually leak out of the door dispenser and make a puddle at the... Read more

Fridge not cooling but freezer works? This defrost thermostat monitors evaporator temperature to prevent frost buildup. Tests closed when cold with multimeter.
This thermal cutoff is a safety device in the refrigerator's ice maker that shuts off the heater circuit if temperatures exceed safe limits. It helps protect the ice maker assembly from overheating during the harvest cycle. Replace this part if the ice maker stops producing ice, fails to complete its cycle, or if testing confirms the thermal cutoff has tripped and no longer resets.
