For Whirlpool Dryer Temperature Selector Switch (4-Position) (Part Number: OEM18025131)

Nicholas for Model Number WP3399640

"I have a Whirlpool dryer model #WED5560SQ0. I just tested all my wires, plug, and all other electrical components. I've also cleaned out my dryer and air duct and there's good air flowing in and out of my dryer because my air duct flap outside is open when it's on to indicate good airflow. I just just all my dials and I see that my selector switch does not have continuity on the "Heavy High Load" setting but all the other settings have continuity. My clothes still run on heavy load but my clothes are still damp and have to run dryer again until clothes are done. Why is the dryer still running on "Heavy Load" with no continuity and is the selector switch important when it comes to drying clothes than just good clean airflow and not tripping any components?"

1 Answer

Nicholas, If the selector switch is not showing continuity then the issue will be that the switch is faulty and would need replaced.

I have a whirlpool dryer and my "heavy load" selector setting has no continuity, but all the other settings have continuity. My dryer still runs on the heavy setting but it's still taking more time to dry clothes. My dryer is cleaned out, there's good air flowing, there are no clogs in the air duct because the flap is open, and all the rest of my wires, dials, and other electrical components have continuity. Is the temperature selector switch important to the clothes heating and why is the dryer still running on heavy but no continuity?

1 Answer

Nicolas, if you will submit another question and include your model number, we should be able to assist you.

Merry, It sounds as though you are correct and is overheating for some reason. A couple of issues could be the cycling thermostat WP3387134 not turning off the heater, a short or grounded heater that is causing it to stay energized all the time. Test one terminal to ground for continuity. If you have continuity replace the heater. A problem with the blower wheel, make sure good air flow coming out of your dryer.

Kid, You will want to check the start switch on the unit to make sure that it is good by testing continuity. Will be no continuity when the button is not pushed and have continuity when it is. If the switch checks ok then the motor would be faulty and need to be replaced.

Bill, You will want to check for power getting to the igniter. There should be 120 vac getting to it. If not then test the thermostats for continuity and if they are good then either the timer contact is not making to send power to the igniter.
