Tim for Model Number MED9700SQ0

Dryer heating element stays on glowing, on all heat levels including air dry. As I understand it the element should cycle on and off maintaining a +/- 20 degree while running and not come on at all during air dry mode. I recently changed out the thermal fuse which would not allow my dryer to turn on. I also replaced the thermostat on the blower housing beside it. I have also ensured the venting was not clogged or restricted, (good to go). Heating element has continuity. Heating element is not grounded out. High end thermostat has continuity I am trying to get to the root cause of the thermal fuse blowing. which leads me to watch the heating element while the lower cover was removed, Observation: coils glow while the dryer is on at all time. These coils do not cycle off and on as I would assume they should. Once the dry cycle is complete and shuts off the heating element will shut off also. Tim

Hello, Tim. Unplug the dryer, get to the main control board under the top panel on the side. Remove the BLK and RED wires from the big heat relay and using a meter check between those two relay terminals for continuity. If there is continuity - the relay is bad and you need to replace the main control board (p/n AP6013143) that is listed as no longer available. If you look on line, you may find some used ones. Thank you.

Stephanie, the main control for the model provided is part number WP8546219 and the user control panel is part number WP8558455. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has discontinued both parts and they are no longer available.

Jeff, It sounds like you have an error code and you would want to get the tech sheet from the unit and check to see what error codes are stored. This will guide you to what may be wrong with the unit.

Brett for Model Number GEW9250PW0

I have a whirlpool duet dryer model GEW9250PW0 that the control circuit board went out on. The original part number is 8546219 Rev C. The part has been discontinued by the manufacturer. I found a refurbished part online advertised as the same part number, but when it arrived, the actual part number on the board was 3978918 Rev A. The two part numbers are listed as interchangeable on appliance parts pros, but when I installed the new circuit board, the dryer modes don’t work right. The dryer runs fine but only in like three modes which don’t match up with the dial position. My question is does the Rev A vs Rev C make a difference? Like different programming? Visually the two circuit boards are identical.

Brett, the control 3978918 is an older version of the control board 8546219. As such, it is going to have an older programming to operate on which would cause operational issues.

Randy for Model Number gew9250pw1

dryer does not shut off when in auto dry cycle ,decreases to 10 min remaining and stays there.I have run diagnostics with button presses and beep stays on immediately indicating moisture sensor, have checked sensor and wiring for shorts all ok, input p1-p2 shows 1.6 megohms. In timed or auto cycle wet light comes on immediately and stays on. clothes will dry and temp is normal just no auto cycle and wet light stays on.is control board faulty? is there a way to check that i have'nt done? thanks

Hello Randy, When the unit will advance in timed dry but not in the automatic cycle, there is an airflow issue causing the hot moist air to blow past the drum seals where it is sensed again and prevents the timer motor from getting voltage. The fix for this is to correct the exhaust duct issue restricting the airflow to outside atmosphere. There are no parts that can be replaced to correct this. The ducting should be as short and straight as possible and there cannot be any crimps or clogs in the ducting. All of the manufacturers recommend against lint trapping flexible ducting.

Hello Bill, that would indicate the dryer should have 120v between L1 and Neutral at the terminal block, you can double-check this with a multimeter at the main control board P1-5 black to P1-2 neutral white, if so, then the power surge damaged the main control board internally, part AP6013143] which is no longer available as it has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

Robin, you will want to use the control WP8546219 as it is specified by the manufacturer. The use of an alternative from what the manufacturer recommends may not work appropriately.

Jj Jones for Model Number GEW9250PL0

Years ago my dryer stopped working. When I hit start you could hear a relay click, but nothing happened. Pulled the board and found a soldered connection on the motor relay had popped, leaving some nasty burn marks. I repaired this and it worked for years. Just happened again, but the connection is fine. I ordered a new relay and replaced it, but still just hear the click when I hit start. Any ideas on what could be preventing the motor from engaging? I’ve ordered a new 40pin chip out of desperation. Welcome thoughts from those who know more than me (everyone)

JJ, There are a few other things to check first. If the dryer overheats, the thermal fuse fuse WP3392519 on the blower housing will "open" and not allow power to the motor, but the control board relay will "click".Then there's the 279782 belt switch, located on the base of the dryer/motor mount assembly. If the belt 661570V breaks, the switch fails or a wire is damaged or burnt, the motor will not start or run either. These are "safety" devices and based on your description, the most likely issue with your dryer.
