Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Control Board (Part Number: OEM18039438)

1 Answer

Ed, the control board is a non serviceable item as far as parts designated by the manufacturer. As far as there not being a light in the drum, you can do a voltage check at the light to see if there is a voltage issue or if the light itself has failed.

Paul, the first thing you will want to do is make sure that the selector knob did not come loose from the control section first. If it has not come loose and the selector will rotate but none of the cycles will become selected then you will need to replace your control WE04M10006.

Mark for Model Number GEW9250PW0

I have a Whirlpool dryer that has worked fairly flawlessly for 10+ years. This past weekend I noticed it had "control panel locked". Attempting to hold down the unlock did nothing. I unplugged and waited out over night and replugged and the light was on again but I was able to unlock it. Then when i set my timer and was looking to push start, it came back on and the control panel was again locked. a) is there a resistor or piece on this unit that has normally gone defective that I can just replace? Reading the internet, it seems a common issue. b) barring that, which exact part am I looking at here?

1 Answer

Mark, There may be a resistor or something bad but we would not have information on it and there is no schematic of the control panel. The part that would be needed is the user interface WP8558753.

Hello Shane, You will need to verify voltage to the board and out to the components from the board to include the display. This actually sounds like the main board has failed.

Hello Doug. If the unit will start immediately, it sounds like you will need to order and replace the control board on the unit. It sounds like the relay for the motor is releasing and not holding. Thank you.

BEMCW, It sounds likely that the user interface may be faulty and need to be replaced.

Kp for Model Number Kenmore 110.85862400

Dryer has power. All lights and controls work. All normal in Diagnostic Mode. But, using any setting, when Start is pressed and held, dryer hums for about 5 seconds, then stops. No drum turn, no motor noise. Thermal fuse has continuity. Both motor windings show 1.9 Ohms. Belt Switch tests good. Resistance between P1-3 and P1-4 on Control Board shows OL (not sure what good reading should be, test sheet just says replace if between 2 and 6 Ohms) . Door Switch test in Diagnostics Mode shows good (beep on close and open, 4E code on display when open), BUT only get OL or very high resistance (15MOhms) between P1-3 and P1-2. So, conflicting results for Door Switch, everything else checks OK. Hard to believe a bad Door Switch would show good in Diagnostics Test, so guessing Control Board is issue. Your Thoughts?

1 Answer

KP, Based on the information this would be an issue with the control board of the unit with getting OL reading.

Tung, You will want to check for power into the control board at the P1 5 connector (Black wire) and P1 pin 2 (white wire for 120 vac getting to it. If there is power but no power any where else then this control board will be faulty.

Sharon, You will want to try and push the end of cycle signal button for 3 seconds and see if the lock goes off. If it does not then this will most likely be a faulty user interface board.

Renee, You will want to look inside of the unit below where the lint filter will go into the unit and look for strips that look like WP3387223.
