This replacement part is a control board for an ice maker. Control boards serve as the main computer that controls the functions of the ice machine. Before installing this part, unplug the ice maker and pull it away from the wall. Then unthread screws of the access cover to the control panel. Use a putty knife to pry the cover off and proceed to remove the screws securing the top panel. Use a nut driver to remove the rear panel. Lift the top panel up and have someone hold it upright. Remove the screws that hold the control housing on the top panel. Once control housing has been released, remove the screws securing the grounding wire to set the panel aside. Then with a Phillips head screwdriver, unthread the screws that hold the control board. Depress the tab to release the board. Note the orientation of the wire connectors and disconnect them from the board. Re-secure the wire connectors to their correct terminals and pop the new control board back in place. Reinstall the panels that were removed. This genuine replacement part is a control board compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Sears/Kenmore brand ice machines.

Rob for Model Number GI1500XHB0

Going crazy trying to fix my Whirlpool icemaker. Sears came and charged 5x what it costs for a pump, I've then replaced the water valve, still having problems. Works great for a bit, then stops making ice and just makes a cycling sound. If I put water in the lower bowl, it makes ice, but then goes back to cycling. Having replaced both the pump and the valve, guessing its the control board. Just ordered that part. Not sure how to get to the board to replace. Welcome any direction. Thanks!

Hello Rob. You will need to remove the outer cover off the icemaker to replace the control board WP2304016 in the unit. Once removed, you can access and replace the control board. Hope this helps.

I narrowed it down to the optional drain pump. The water supply relay closes and the water supply starts entering. Then in about 1 minute the drain pump starts then shuts off power to the rest of the unit (board, interior light, etc. from power supply inside unit) Then in about another minute, power returns and the water supply relay closes and the water supply starts entering again. This continues forever. BUT.....I unplugged the drain pump from the internal 120v supply and connected it to the household wall receptacle. Now I'm making ice. The drain pump still comes on and drains but cycles about every minute even when the unit is in OFF mode. Current QUESTIONS... 1) What is in that power supply that supplies 120vac and 7 amps to the drain pump? 2) What did I bypass besides the on/off switch? 3) Does the pump suppose to continue to cycle every minute or so when in ON position? 4) Do I need the entire pump or are there parts that can be replaced within the pump or power supply box?

1 Answer

Hello Griff. When the drain pump turns on, it shuts the unit off because of the amp rating. If the pump continues to come on, you either have a water leak inside the tub of the unit, or the float in the pump is bad. Look for water splashing outside the bin into the bottom. If it does, a little turns on the pump alot. If there are no leaks, you will need to replace the drain pump assembly. Hope this helps.

From Previous Question (below) ___________________________________________ OK, I replaced the 2304016 Control Board and it seems to still be doing the same as before. In the CLEAN mode (this seems correct): 1. LED on steady (no blinking indications) 2. Condenser fan does not come on 3. Recirculating pump comes on after a few seconds then off for a few then back on 4. Compressor comes on when the recirculating pump comes back on In the ON (or Run) mode: 1. The water valve comes on then off then on every several seconds (continuously) 2. Condenser fan never comes on 3. Recirculating pump never comes on 4. Compressor never comes on 5. The drain pump is off and on when necessary

1 Answer

Hello Griff. Check and make sure the wires going to the compressor are wired correctly, and the wires on the control board. Also, make sure the wires are not burnt or broken. It sounds like a wiring issue, due to the fact the compressor and the control board are new. Hope this helps.

Icemaker stopped making ice. It was determined that the compressor was shorted. It was replaced. Now the unit will not get past the cycle where water goes through the inlet valve and fills the reservoir then shuts the valve and the drain pump drains the overflow. This cycle continues forever. I put it in clean mode and the compressor starts and heats the plate and hot water flows over the plate for over an hour when I finally shut it off. There were no blinking LEDs but the cleaning LED did come on during it's cycle. NOTE: The compressor did come on and the plate started cooling after the new compressor was just installed and we turned on the unit for the first time. Then it stopped and didn't do it again in the last 3 days. The compressor relay has been replaced as well as the circulating pump. Can the control board be causing this? What can it be?

1 Answer

Hello Griff. Yes, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the control board WP2304016 is bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Hello, Our ice production was poor (known failing water valve) before the machine stopped making ice. The water valve and the recirculation pump have both been replaced. Now the reservoir will fill with water and the freezing plate is cold (ice crystals form), but water will not flow over the plate. The pump was replaced again (to rule out defective pump). Would no power to pump = control board issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ken

1 Answer

Hello Ken. Yes, if there is no power to the pump motor, you will need to replace the control board WP2304016. Hope this helps.

Hi Bonnie. Have you been using nickel safe cleaner regullarily? Part # is WX08X42870. Remember to clean the unit at least every couple of months depending on water hardness and rate of use. Can you press off and take it out of the clean mode.? Is the clean mode flashing? If so you will need a Ice control thermister part # is WP2185680. The control board is part # WP2304016. Thank you.

Hi...me again. I pulled the unit out of the cabinet and just for grins reconnected the water supply, drain and power. The unit made ice and stayed completely full for two days. It today reverted back to not making ice. Now that I have it out of the cabinet and can see and hear what is happening, I have determined that the water is flowing over the plate. It is the compressor/overload switch that is clicking on and off. Turned it off and back on...it went right back to work...water flowing over a very cold plate. Also....how hot should the compressor get? Using an IR thermometer it was around 135 degrees when running. Thoughts?

1 Answer

Hello Curt. Check and see if the condenser fan motor is running and if the coils are clean. If so, it sounds like the compressor W10823815 may be bad on the unit. If it is building up pressure and won't restart the compressor is bad. Hope this helps.

My ice maker will intermittently make ice and then not make ice. It seems to get stuck in some cycle where it makes a sucking noise. Turning it off and back on will sometimes correct the problem and it will make ice again. However recently it seems to go more quickly right back to not producing ice...after one or two ice drops. I've run it through a cleaning cycle more than once. It had this problem when it was new and I believe the repair tech replaced the circuit control board. Could that be the problem again?

1 Answer

Hello Curt. You will need to look inside the unit and see if the water is splashing out of the unit into the ice bin. If so, the unit will not produce ice due to the water leaking into the ice bin. If the unit fills for a few cycles, and then stops, check and see if there is power coming to the water valve. If there is power there and the water does not fill, you will need to replace the water valve W10801996. If there is no power there you will need to replace the control board WP2304016. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter.
