Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Drain Hose (Part Number: OEM18061137)

Omer M. for Model Number KUDM01TJBL0

I took the dishwasher out to replace the hot water hose to the washer. I was in two minds whether I should replace the drain as well. The existing drain hose (AP3178188) has the check valve in its elbow (pump side). Ran a quick test. The check valve is still in its place. What I saw was that the with the hose disconnected, if I fill it up the check valve will leak water every so slightly, (drip by drip), (towards the elbow- closest to the check valve). What I am wondering is if that means the valve is bad or if that's as good as these check valves will work. Secondly, The washer is about 12 yrs old. Is it time to replace the drain nonetheless? Would really appreciate a quick response as I have the dishwasher out.

Hello Omer, If it is only leaking a few drops after 12 years of service, you have done well with that drain line WPW10358302. I would definately replace it since the rubber check valve will deteriorate with time and use.

Hello Dan, The check valve cannot be seen without destroying the drain hose. It is there as I found out with an air hose when I was in the shop one day. I also cut one open to see for myself.

HI Dan. You wiouldnt think so but pull the drain hose off the sink connecter and place it in a bucket. Now insert a straight screwdriver into the sink connecter and feel if the plumbing knock out plug is still inside. If so remove it. Make sure the drain loop is mounted as far up under the sink behind the basin so the drain hose is now taught on a down slope into the sink drain. Remove the bottom kick panel. Remove the drain hose from the drain pump. At the pump output there is a black rubber check valve that may be ripped or missing part # WP8268375. Thank You.

Hello Dan, Yes sir, there is a check valve made in the drain hose. It is in the end with the 90° elbow that attaches to the output on the pump. It is non-serviceable and absolutely necessary. Without it, every time water ran in the sink the unit would fill with the drain water from the sink.

Dan, your check valve is inside the drain pump assembly WP8268375 You'll need to remove the pump accumulator/cover to access it. Before that, if you havent yet, disconnect the drain hose from the disposal or drain plumbing under the sink, start the dishwasher and let it wash a couple of minutes, then cancel and drain the water into a large bucket or pale. This will usually clear any debris or garbage that may have accumulated in the sump and drain hose. Thanks and Good Luck

Brian, If you wish, consider 3385556 or WP99002652 . The inside diameter is the important concern, and this hoses appears to have a 3/4 to 7/8 inch inside diameter(like all dishwasher drain hoses) and should get you what you want. Thanks and Good Luck

Frustrated, You may want to check, or replace the drain hose, and place a small "loop" in the hose if possible, this would make a "trap" in the drain hose, and help keep the gasses from the drain system from backing up into the dishwasher. All the filters in the pump are readily available and accessable from the tub. You can remove the lower spray arm and accumulator plate and check the "check valve" WP8268375 to see if it's stuck open or damaged. The most important part is to make sure your water temperature in the bottom of the tub, on the first fill cycle is at least 120 dgrs. and you use the proper amount of detergent for the wash load and water conditions. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Mark! The drain hose is part number 8269144A. The check valve is built into the drain hose and not capable of falling out. Thanks!
