The Door Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It plays a crucial role in ensuring the dishwasher operates only when the door is securely closed. The switch signals the control board that the door is shut, allowing the wash cycle to begin safely.

You should replace the door switch if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad door switch can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues, or physical damage from forceful closing of the door.

Symptoms of a bad door switch include:

  • The dishwasher not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to the door latch or door switch
  • The dishwasher operating with the door open (safety issue)
  • No response when pressing the start button

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Larry. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the control panel W10810424 is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. If some buttons work and others do not, you will need to replace the control panel.

Hello, The unit has several components in the heating circuit. The heater, the thermostat, the wiring harness, the door switch, and the control. I would guess your issue is the control WP8564543considering the symptoms you gave.

Hello Robert. I would test with the machine filled with water, at the point the circulation pump should be running , to see if the motor is getting power. If power is present, the circulation motor WPW10757217 has failed. If no voltage is present, the control WP8564543 has failed. It is much easier and safer to test for voltage in this instance with a voltage indicator TJMA-49858A. sure hope this helped!

Hi Robert. Remove the kick plate. Look at the float switch to see if the float stem rides up and down on the fill switch kit part # 8193506. Sometimes the switch mount body side access will pop loose and the stem will slide off the sw. lever getting cocked between the 2. Thank You.

Hello Chris. Turn off the dishwasher in stand by mode (no lights on control panel). Press heated dry, Normal, Heated dry, Normal and the dishwasher will start. Let it run through the complete cycle. Always get the water hot at the sink before starting the dishwasher. If the problem continues, you will need to test the heater WPW10082892 and the thermostat WP661566. They should read closed for continuity. Hope this helps.

Hi, this dishwasher has a few problems. The button panel is no longer intact over the start button. Consequently the start button does not react until after several times of pushing it or taking a pencil eraser or something to really depress the button. Also the dishwasher stops mid cycle. Once we open the door and close it again, the dishwasher will finish the cycle. We have had to twist and tweak the door to keep it latched, it would pop open, but now even when it doesn't pop open the cycle doesn't finish without opening and shutting the door. How many parts would you recommend to fix these issues?

Jeff, It is more common for a keypad to fail, than you'd think. Since the door switch checks OK, if the control and display programs but you can't start the dishwasher then the control panel is the more likely issueW10811155. Thanks and Good Luck

The normal light keeps flashing. When I put the 15 pnt. grey connector out and put back in the dishwasher? It will run for two or three times then back to normal light flashing. What part do I need to order? Also a problem the screws to screw the panel to the door some are cracked so the panel doesn't feel tight(which is caused by to much removing to get to panel plus those parts were plastic which break). Thanks for your help if you could tell me what part or parts I need to order. Thanks Erica

Albert, Did the latch assembly come apart ? Thees only three(3) parts , the switches and the latch assembly 8193830 You may need to order the new latch assembly if you have more parts than that. The switches mount on the pins of the latch assembly so that when the latch pawl on the tub flange is locked closed the switches are activated and the dishwasher operates. Good Luck and Thanks
