The Water Level Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It monitors and regulates the water level inside the dishwasher during wash cycles, ensuring the correct amount of water is used for optimal cleaning performance.

The water level switch can fail due to several reasons, such as electrical issues, mechanical wear over time, or damage from water exposure. Blockages or debris can also interfere with its proper functioning.

Symptoms of a bad water level switch include:

  • The dishwasher not filling with water
  • Overfilling or flooding inside the dishwasher
  • The dishwasher stopping mid-cycle or not progressing through cycles
  • Error codes related to water levels

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Water Level Switch (Part Number: OEM18050223)

Doug for Model Number Maytag dishwasher

Our Maytag washer wasn't filling. I bought the water inlet valve which seemed to be what was recommended. It still didn't fill so I looked at the float switch, took it out and tested it. It worked perfectly. I looked at the little plastic lever and the pin that drops down to push the lever into the float switch. The pin did not drop down all the way and there was a 1/8 " gap between it and the lever. When I manually pushed the lever up to the float switch, the dishwasher worked. So my guess is that the pin is supposed to drop down against the lever, keeping the float switch closed and allowing it to fill. When the water level rises, the pin will rise and eventually, the lever will open the float switch (i.e. create an open circuit.) So this is my question: how do I fix this?

Doug, if the model number of the appliance could be provided in a new question, this will allow the most accurate information to be presented.

Rick Hartoin for Model Number KDTM354DSS1

The dish washer is not cleaning the dishes. It goes through all the cycles but when I open the door the soap door is open and the pod is sitting on the bottom below the rack only slightly dissolved. I changed the turbidity sensor but it didn’t work. The dishwasher is making a little more noise than before during certain cycles and it seems to be coming from the front right side by the float switch. When I open the door after the water filling stage the water is hot like the kitchen faucet temperature, 125 degrees. But the walls and upper rack are dry. What should I try next.

Rick, This unit has a diverter motor on it that is most likely not working. The diverter motor will shift the water from the bottom to the top and if it is not working then the dishes will not get clean. The part number for the motor is W10537869.

EVERETT, Based on the information provided check the level of the machine if the water is below the heater, it should not be over the float. Check the float for cracks and check to see it is tightly in place.

Sam, it would be recommended that the ice maker fill tube is inspected to identify if it has an ice block which would indicate a failed water valve DA97-07827B. Another thing that would be recommended to check is using a thermometer to check to see if the freezer is reaching less than 10°F. If the freezer is not less than 10°F, the ice maker would not be able to make ice quickly or properly.

Joe, the float switch WPW10195039 can be tested for continuity as it should have a closed circuit when the float is properly activating it. If there is continuity, the next step would be identifying if there is 120VAC going to the valve when the dishwasher is started. If not, the failure is in the main control W10479761 or there is a broken or loose wire W10871221. If there is 120VAC, there may be a pinched/crimped line, water supply is not turned on, or there may be an issue with the valve WPW10327249 itself.

Mark, Check the water fill to make sure that there is not too little water entering the unit. The water should fill just below the heater on this model. Also, check the spray arms to make sure that they are not cracked or damaged. These would be the 2 most likely causes for the soap to not dispense other than possibly having something blocking the water flow to the dispenser so make sure that larger and taller items are toward the back.

Ken, If the unit runs through the cycle with no water in it then check the float to make sure that it is not stuck up and the float switch to make sure that it is good. If they check ok then the issue will be a faulty main control board.

Hello Ike, You will most likely need to replace the control panel W10811169 since it sounds like there could be a stuck key on it. If not, you have a relay issue on the board W10595568.
