Mark January 14, 2019 for Model Number WED 4800XQ1 I ordered the replacement part for my whirlpool dryer but the new timer did not have a place to connect the orange wire to it , like the old timer. I checked the part number and it shows I have the correct one. If you can help me out I would appreciate it.
1 Answer Mark, The WP3979618 / WP3979618 Timer is the correct part for the model number you supplied. It appears the printed labels are slightly off on the replacement timer. on that side of the timer the violet/purple colored wire will attach to the terminals labeled "V". The white/black wire will attach to the brass colored terminal at the opposite corner of the timer. and the orange wire will attach to the remaining terminal (which appears to be the WB terminal) and there is no terminal in the OR slot in the timer body. Cody December 18, 2015 for Model Number TEDX640JQ1 My Estate dryer will not stay on. It quits running on the high heat side and now is acting up on the low heat side. Is this a timer issue or something else? It is at least 10 years old. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
1 Answer Cody, You will want to check the rollers and the blower wheel to ensure that there is no drag which could cause the motor to overheat and shut down. If this checks ok then the issue will most likely be a faulty motor. Read More...
Michael August 22, 2015 for Model Number eed4300sq0 Drier runs and dries fine, timer will not advance no matter what position it is placed in. Just a bad timer, or is there something else that i need to look at? Thank you
Cheri December 01, 2013 for Model Number EED4300SQ0 Can I have the correct part number for a timer for my dryer?
Mike November 30, 2013 for Model Number RED4340SQ1 What is the purple wire run? Mine is not sending power from the terminal at the top of the machine where it starts off the timer. It runs down to a relay or fuse, whatever you want to refer it to, which in turn passes the power to the heating element. This is my problem, I temporarily attached the 2 red wires, the red one with the white stripe that runs from the start button to the bottom 4 way relay and the solid red wire which runs to the blower. Which a purple wire that runs down to the heating element and I made the element get hot so what does that purple wire at the timer actually do or supposed to do.
1 Answer Mike, The violet/purple wire goes to the cycling thermostat. Which is the 4 way relay that you are referring to. When the unit runs, the cycling thermostat will open up and the purple wires keep the unit running while shutting off the heater. Read More...

Davey July 21, 2012 for Model Number WED5100VQ1 hello. My Whirlpool electic dryer stop drying on the times dry cycle but still heats up on the automatic cycle. I replaced the heater element but I have the same issue. Could it be a faulty timer?
1 Answer Davey, At this point, based on your post description Yes the timer WPW10185982 is the most likely issue. Since the timer activates the same heater contacts in the timer (A to C terminals "close" on all heat settings and cycles) If the dryer heats in one selection, it should heat in the other, unless there's and issue with the interior contacts. James H. May 19, 2012 for Model Number AED4475TQO Dryer about 4years old. Drys fine only stops on auto sense dry high. All other settings timer just keeps turning until opening door to stop. Im thinking bad timer. What do you think?
1 Answer Hello James. Yes, if the timer continues to run, and does not stop on any cycles, and there is power to the timer motor, you will need to replace the timer WP8299781. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Amanda April 28, 2012 for Model Number REX5634KQ1 We replaced the timer on our dryer and the timer still will not move when we turn on the dryer. Can you give us anymore suggestions on what is wrong with the dryer? Everything works on the dryer but the timer.
1 Answer Hi Amanda. There is a supplied wiring diagram in the back of the controls area. Use this and see if the wires are not crossed backwards on the timer part # WP8299781. The L-1 black wire connects to the Bk timer terminal. The violet wire connects to the V terminal. All blue wires connects to the B terminal. One black wire from the timer motor will connect to the TM terminal. The White w/black wire connects to the WB terminal. The orange wire connects to the OR. terminal. The red wire connects to the R terminal on the timer. Remove the back. Then check the thermal fuse part # WP3392519 mounted on the blower housing front. All fuses should ohm out closed - not - open. Make sure the vent is entirely clear and not restricted. Make sure the outside vent cap / hood is opening and closing properly 4-5x /yr. so lint and moisture does not back up and create a restriction causing these issues. Thank You. Read More...
Sue April 25, 2012 for Model Number EED4300VQo My dryer won't turn on. It makes a humming noise when I push the start button like it want's to start. We replaced the motor and checked the thermo fuse ,door switch and the cycling thermostat. Could it be the timer? Thanks, Sue
1 Answer Sue, The motor hum, tells you the voltage is getting to the motor, but is the voltage correct, You could have a faulty contact in the timer, You could check for 110-120 VAC , on the blue wire at the timer to chassis ground, when you press the start button, with a multi meter. Your first check should be at the terminal block of the dryer on the back, make sure there are no loose connections there, and you have 240 VAC across the two outside terminals of the block(where the wires attach). You need to be careful, if you do live voltage tests. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
