After researching on the APP site, I decided what I thought I would need and purchased a new Gasket, Gasket Insert, Left & Right Corner Baffles from APP. The parts were shipped immediately. However, I’m an 80 yr. old female so I procrastinated for almost 6 weeks before deciding to 'tackle' the repair myself rather than hiring an appliance repair person or "handyman". I went back into the AppliancePartsPros site and reviewed the wonderful videos related to the repair since Matt had made it... Read more

Not the first time my 10 year old dishwasher developed a leak. I have learned that the tub gasket gets dirty and the gasket spring gets weak. Cleaning and if needed replacing that solves the problem. In cleaning the tub gasket this time I notice the bottom door seal had separated from the door. It was originally riveted on. Our GE was installed about 8 years ago and was AWESOME for much of its early life. However, progressively its cleaning ability diminished. By replacing all the spray arms (clogged with debris), filters, drain hose, and sump...this dishwasher cleans like it did when it was new! Cost was around $100 (also replaced a wheel and the silverware basket) and labor was relatively simple. And to think...my mother-in-law said, "Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a new one?!?". The full story: Dishwasher stopped running mid-cycle. When I first began troubleshooting I tried manually advancing the timer knob, and the machine would run. That led me to believe that the actual timer assembly was bad, so I replaced it. The dishwasher ran fine for a day, and then the same problem came back. This time, however, I also had to push in on the door to get it to run. I looked around online, and someone suggested that the door latch wasn't closing tightly enough. I adjusted the... Read more

About a year ago my dishwasher during a cycle was emitting a horrible plastic burning smell. We stopped it mid-cycle, cleaned it out and tried to run a few more cycles after that and realized it wouldn't drain so it sat in my kitchen broken for a year. I finally got so fed up with washing dishes by hand that I took the whole dishwasher apart. Confirmed there were no blockages in any of the hoses etc. when it still didn't work I googled the problem, found this website and found that it must be... Read more

Ordered Impeller and Shaft Seal Kit which came overnight. Easy to put in after watching the video. While installing I found that Inlet Sump was ripped and ordered the part which came overnight. Trickier to install but thought it went well. Even though Shaft Seal probably was not the problem it did need replacing. Got it put back together and water would come into the dishwasher but it would not start and pump the water to wash. Called Tech Support and got some answers but did not have time to... Read more

Removing the bottom panel and watching the internals while the washer was running revealed a small drip from what appeared to be a plastic cam that was attached to a solenoid. The water was dripping from the shaft the cam attached to down into the solenoid. Being a DIY guy I pulled the washer out, turned it upside down and inspected the effected mechanism. It appeared that there was a seal on the shaft that was leaking. The water leaking into the solenoid caused it to rust and stick. A quick... Read more

It is very simple to fix. All the blogs recommend replacement of this part but do not explain why. This is a normally open check valve that permits the water from inside the dishwasher to drain out, either once it gets too high or just general splash. When the machine drains the pump comes on and the check valve closes. If the check valve is damaged or worn (like mine was) some of the water can pump back into the machine. So really, the problem is not that the machine will not drain but... Read more
