Loud noise or freezer warming up? This evaporator fan blade circulates cold air over coils. Simple DIY fix—most repairs done in under an hour.
The fridge is 20+ years old in a home we recently moved into. It sounded like a motor getting stuck on something or grinding weird... was hoping it wasn't something more serious. Found this site, clicked 'noisy' and got the replacement evaporator fan motor blade as well as the motor evaporator. Turned out I didn't really need to replace the fan blade, but since I had it and ours was old, figured I might as well put in the new parts. Followed the videos here, which were really helpful. The Ice Dispenser Chute Door is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This component is located in the ice dispenser mechanism on the freezer door and is responsible for opening and closing the ice chute. The chute door helps to dispense ice properl
The ice dispenser chute door had not been sealing for years. The ice cubes on the lower portion of the ice bin would melt enough eventually to then freeze up into a big, amalgamated blob of ice due to ambient air coming up the chute. This melt-then-freeze would happen, to the extent the chute froze to its own closure. Despite service technician visits over a period of six years nothing they did resolved the issue. I opened the freezer door to reach into the bin from the top to extract usable... Read more
The Ice Auger Motor Shaft is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool and KitchenAid refrigerators and freezers. Located inside the icemaker assembly, this shaft transmits rotary motion from the motor to turn the auger paddle.
Symptoms of a failed
While this should have been a relatively simple replacement of the ice bucket coupling and auger motor drive shaft, there were a couple of unexpected complications. First, the screw holding the coupling was absolutely fused into the auger. The screw head was easily stripped while trying to remove the coupling. Being that you have to somehow keep the auger from turning while trying to remove a screw with considerable force, I had to remove the auger and put it on my workbench's vise. But the... Read more
Fix ice not dispensing or auger not turning issues. This coupler connects the motor to the ice bin auger. DIY-friendly repair, about 20 minutes.
The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. This coupler in turn rotates the auger in the bin to dispense the ice. I removed the motor coupler & shaft, tapped the coupler loose and filed off the rust. This allowed... Read more
