Pump Parts

I took it apart and found the drain pump motor had come apart. I found appliancepartspros.com and read the reviews for this company. Customers were very satisfied with the parts and service. This was a Maytag DE312 actually a Whirlpool labeled as Maytag) and is 27 years old. Replaced motor, drive belt and drum rollers. One tricky part was the motor because the new motor comes with integral starter and it was necessary to cut off existing female spade connectors on some wires and crimp on new connectors. Ordered Impeller and Shaft Seal Kit which came overnight. Easy to put in after watching the video. While installing I found that Inlet Sump was ripped and ordered the part which came overnight. Trickier to install but thought it went well. Even though Shaft Seal probably was not the problem it did need replacing. I had previously disassemble the pump assembly to find what I at first thought was an oddly shaped spring, which it was. What I learned by researching the parts was that the spring's odd shape was a result of something having gotten caught in the pump and jamming the impeller. I opened the washer and replaced the pump. To open the washer: 1. Remove the 2 screws that are different from the others in the top back corners of the machine. That will let you remove the top. 2. Remove the soap tray and its holder. The tray comes out if you depress the tab in the back center. Its holder comes out if you remove the two screws in the front. Ran diagnostics 5 times to make sure I get the same error code and then called Appliance Parts Pros to order the washer pump. They informed me they had the pump assembly that has multiple parts on the unit and it was cost effective to order the assembly. I ordered the assembly and after a long back order time received the part. My dishwasher was running super loud for several loads but appeared to be cleaning just fine. One day it went from super loud to hardly a sound at all, not even the sound of water. Since the $3 elbow isn't sold individually, I had to buy a $125 pump assembly and change the whole thing. My AI made a huge deal about not using a random elbow fitting from the hardware store, so I went for the whole assembly. The pump assembly itself was a perfect fit and easy install. Read more

It was a learning experience. First I turned off the power! I removed the lower kick plate, disconnected the drain hose and electrical connectors. Then removed the discharge pump and heat sensor then loosened the 4 hold down arms/clamps. Then I opened the door and pulled the base up from the inside. Now to remove and replace the Pump Motor. Then reverse the process. If I were to do again, I'd pull the dishwasher out and lay it on its back. Read more

I ordered a new vario motor and a soap dispenser. I turned off the water and the breaker, disconnected the water line and the power at the front base of the unit, disconnected the drain hose from the garbage dispenser, and pulled out the dishwasher and laid it on a blanket on its face. I unscrewed and removed the plainly visible vario motor on the bottom of the machine and removed the cam from the shaft. First determined drain discharge hose was clear. Turned of power to dishwasher. I did not find it necessary to remove the dishwasher. I simply removed the lower service panel at the floor and was able to easily remove the defective pump, unplug it, replace the small rubber check valve flapper before the pump inlet and reinstall the new pump assembly.
