Knowing the odds of 2 failures occurring at the same exact time was unusually high, I just searched your site for what other broken items might affect these two failures. Came up with next control item upstream and tallied that item failure with percentages of successful repairs, (4 mins.) door safety switch. I am not an appliance repair man. I am a general surgeon. I went online and researched the problem. The consensus was that my magnetron and diode were the most likely culprits. To replace my microwave with a comparable model would have cost at least $800. The diode and magnetron cost around $170. • Door stuck closed

Found the fix description online - purchased the Door Latch Bracket. I did need to remove the Microwave from the cabinet it was built into. Required removing the screws at the four corners of the trim piece surrounding the microwave. Then removed the oven with the frame bracket attached - removed the bracket, then needed a star shaped secure screwdriver to remove the microwave skin around the sides and top (remove the secure screws from the back and slide the skin toward the back and off). ... First, it was going to cost $95 for an appliance guy just to look at it! I figured there would be an upcharge on the parts + labor on top of the $95, so I took a chance & decided my husband & I could fix it cheaper; we were right, but it was a 3 week process (luckily, we have another microwave in the basement we were able to use in the meantime). I have a multimeter so I was able to check the fuse per website recommendations and it was blown. However, the capacitor on the microwave was also original so I elected to replace the capacitor, fuse, and the ground protect diode. The repair was very simple (making sure the capacitor was discharged before replacing) and the microwave is now up and running again. I googled the make and model, and found the part on AppliancePartsPros.com. The underside of the oven has a metal grille with numerous openings of various shapes and sizes. There is a rectangle that is punched into this grille, just below the motor. I pried between the vent holes to snap the connections near the perimeter on the punched rectangle. In addition to blown fuse; the fuse holder was melted at one end. Checked the unit to see if any part or wiring that would cause the issue, none was visible. Referred to wiring diagram included inside to identify components, including interlocks. All seemed functional. Bought replacement 20A fuse. Fuse holder no longer available so bought similar unit with 25A rating - little retrofitting. Put unit back together, and it's working so far. Wife is happy. Read more

Replaced magnatron and wire-vltg. First magnatron I ordered came in had damaged frame and tip I decided to install it any way to see if it worked, unfortunately it didn't. I called appliance parts pros and explained what the problem was, the women was very nice and accommodating she sent one out the very next day. I installed the new one and it worked perfectly. It saved me over $400 to replace this particular microwave. I was very happy with the experience of using appliance parts pros. Read more
