Removed microwave from the built in cabinet (probably the hardest part) and took off top cover (screws on side and back). Had previously blown the power fuse 2 times in this microwave, so I checked the fuse first using an ohmmeter. This time fuse was good. Purchased thermostat from Appliance Parts Pros. Installed easily - a jillion sheet metal screws, is all. Recommend use a magnetic parts tray to keep them from disappearing in the kitchen... The thermostat controls the heat and fan in the lower oven. Believe it was ruined when it got banged with bakeware. Hardest part was removing the oven from the cabinet. Read more

Started with checking temp control in the oven. Worked fine. Next was testing high limiter switch. Every place stated switch was on the back panel, found mine place under the right burner cartridge. Took some finagling to expose it. Bought a new one, two wires to disconnect along with two small screws to secure switch, slapped it in and I was in business. Oven that was out of commission for over two weeks (never buy a part from Sears, always deal with APP's!) was on the road again! Read more

Looked at how-to video at Appliancepartspros.com. Took back off dryer thinking I needed to replace heating element. Found loose thermostat wire that had corroded. Spade connector on wire fell off. Stripped wire of insulation and steel-wooled the exposed wires. Replaced spade connector. Found out thermostat connection had broken loose. One of the slip nuts was seized and was twisting the line when I turned it for removal. I was able to remove the other two lines and hold the nut with a wrench and spin the switch assembly in order to disconnect this line without damaging it. I attached the new switch with the same technique. I found it easier to remove the squeeze clips holding the oven temperature sensor (connected to the switch assembly) on the back wall for removal and replacement instead of attempting it reaching to the... The same thing happened about two years ago and when I took off the back cover, the high limit switch was melted and crumbling, so I replaced it and it's worked fine until a couple of weeks ago. We smelled a stinky electrical burning smell a couple of times and then it stopped heating past 250 degrees. Turns out the high limit switch was crumbling again.
