Whirlpool Refrigerator Dispenser Parts

After using the crushed ice feature on my KitchenAid French Door refrigerator, the ice maker wouldn't stop dispensing ice, crushed or cubed. I thought it had to do with the paddle switch being stuck or something else in the door, but all door components seemed to be working as intended. I ended up pulling the ice maker out and disconnecting the wires to the auger so that I could leave the refrigerator plugged in. Removed water catcher, then 4 screws in water/ice vault in door, then removed screws on door side (5) top (2) and bottom (2). Removed stainless door skin. Removed 4 hex head bolts in ice/water vault (containing pads) and 4 bolts on the module immediately above the vault. Pulled the vault and module above out part way to unplug one cable. Removed drip pan from ice dispenser. Removed two screws hidden behind drip pan to loosen bezel at bottom. Carefully lifted bezel off top hook to expose controller board cabling. Disconnected three connectors to control board behind bezel to remove bezel completely. Removed two (possibly three) screws to access the back of the ice chute mechanism. Removed broken paddle that just snaps in, being careful to capture paddle spring. Put paddle spring on new paddle and maneuvered spring-end... Read more

Repairman said I'd need to replace the entire chute inside at a cost of nearly $400! Ordered the chute myself for a little over $100. Took me about a half an hour to carefully disassemble the water/ice dispenser and replace with the new one. The job wasn't hard, I'm just not a very "handy" guy but I love a good challenge and am very careful not to pull and pry on things which may break. It was literally only 4 screws that had to be removed and some wiring harnesses holding everything together.... Read more

Ordered the part. It came in pretty quick and was an exact match. Googled the instructions, followed them step by step. The only thing I did different was I marked the wires so I could put them back right. Took around an hour to replace. Wasn't difficult at all. Read more

The new Ui assembly that has all new push buttons. I found the water shutoff and the power plug when we pulled the fridge out. I shut off the water and pulled the AC plug. The whole assembly that is being replaced, came out easily when I pushed two small tabs on the lower part of the old asm bottom left and right. I used a small screwdriver to release one and then the other tab. I disconnected the electrical connector and the old unit was free. Connect the power plug to the new unit and slide... Read more
