Replaces a cracked, worn, or unresponsive dispenser pad on your refrigerator door. Installs in the front dispenser housing for water and ice.
Removed water catcher, then 4 screws in water/ice vault in door, then removed screws on door side (5) top (2) and bottom (2). Removed stainless door skin. Removed 4 hex head bolts in ice/water vault (containing pads) and 4 bolts on the module immediately above the vault. Pulled the vault and module above out part way to unplug one cable. Connects the dispenser motor to the ice bucket auger. Replace if stripped, worn, or broken to restore proper torque transfer and smooth ice dispensing.
Removed drip pan from ice dispenser. Removed two screws hidden behind drip pan to loosen bezel at bottom. Carefully lifted bezel off top hook to expose controller board cabling. Disconnected three connectors to control board behind bezel to remove bezel completely. Removed two (possibly three) screws to access the back of the ice chute mechanism. This ice dispenser solenoid assembly engages the dispenser mechanism to switch between crushed and cubed ice. A worn or failed solenoid can prevent the selector from changing modes or stop ice from dispensing smoothly.

Repairman said I'd need to replace the entire chute inside at a cost of nearly $400! Ordered the chute myself for a little over $100. Took me about a half an hour to carefully disassemble the water/ice dispenser and replace with the new one. The job wasn't hard, I'm just not a very "handy" guy but I love a good challenge and am very careful not to pull and pry on things which may break. It was literally only 4 screws that had to be removed and some wiring harnesses holding everything together.... Read more

The new Ui assembly that has all new push buttons. I found the water shutoff and the power plug when we pulled the fridge out. I shut off the water and pulled the AC plug. The whole assembly that is being replaced, came out easily when I pushed two small tabs on the lower part of the old asm bottom left and right.
