Oven not heating or baking unevenly? A faulty bake element is often the cause. This DIY repair takes about 10 minutes with basic tools—no repairman needed.
Our Amana electric oven stopped producing heat. The bake element would not get hot anymore. I pulled stove away from wall and unplugged it. Removed the oven racks for easier access and simply used a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the element to the back interior wall. I slide the element forward until the two ends of the element came out of the back wall, exposing the electrical connectors. Next I removed the wire connectors from the element using a pair of pliers for... Read more
Oven not reaching temperature or taking too long to preheat? A failed bake element is often the cause. Moderate DIY repair, 1-2 hours with rear access.
I determined the hidden bake element below the oven cavity was not working, because the bottom of the oven was cold during normal use. If you have a built-in microwave + oven combination (mine is KitchenAid Model No. KEMS308SSS05), this is a difficult repair. The engineer who designed this oven should be invited to succeed elsewhere. It is impossible to access the bake element from the inside of the oven, so the How To video associated with this part will not help you. I had to remove the... Read more
Oven not heating or broiling? A failed broil element often shows blistering or breaks. DIY repair in under 30 minutes with a screwdriver.
Found a real cool Youtube video by AppliancePartsPro.com. I watched it and learned how easy it was to unhook and replace the part with proper care and precautions. It even included tips on critical steps so the wires won't slip back inside the hole and save you from hours of possible mistake. Then I ordered the part. It came the day after, then I replaced the part, meaning, I DID THE WORK! (My wife was so impressed- lol) Easy as pie... but we made and had a much nicer roast the day after.... Read more

Oven not heating or heating slowly? Your bake element likely failed. Located at the bottom of the oven cavity, this part restores even baking. Easy DIY fix.
First I removed the (3) wire shelves. Removed the bottom cover by removing the (2) screws in the back. This exposed the oven element. Removed the (2) screws holding the mounting bracket on the front of the element then removed the (2) screws on the silver bracket that holds the back of the element. I carefully pulled the element forward which pulls it out of the back of the oven. I pulled slightly on the (2) wires attached to the element in order to get a small amount of slack to remove them... I had the choice of spending $2K on another double oven stove or $60 on two elements. (I felt more secure about replacing both bake and broil elements just in case the fire had damaged the bake element) It was an easy decision and quick replacement! Power was already off to the stove so I cleaned up the fire retardent mess. I even found easy instructions dismantling the oven door in order to clean the powder residue from between the glass. I then removed the rack and remaining old elements. I... Read more

Fridge keept building up ice in defrost drain drain in freezer. Once the drain pan filled with ice it drips into fridge compartment. After taking things apart three times to thaw it out, decided to replace defrost components - heater and temperature switch. In addition to new parts, also added a 12 gauge copper wire hook that hangs from defrost heater into the defrost drain. After this, the defrost cycle is running as expected, but will not know if the issue is corrected until a year or so... Read more
