Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Heat was too high   Douglas S. • Mesa , AZ • May 17, 2015

I went ahead and ordered the element, and the 2 different thermostats not knowing exactly which one might be the problem. My My Maytag opens from the front and it was actually pretty easy to get into. Also gave me the opportunity to vacuum out the inside of the dryer. Pop the top off, remove the wires that connect the door switch (noting the colors and placement), take off the 2 inside nuts that hols the fron on, pull it forward and lift it off, 3 inside screws to take out to inside lint part... Admiral Dryer Cycling Thermostat (Multi-Temp)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP307249

This multi-temperature cycling thermostat regulates the dryer's drum heat, switching the heater on and off to match the temperature setting you choose. It can help restore consistent drying if temperatures are erratic, loads run too hot, or cycles take too long.

  • Maintains target temperature by opening and closing the heater circuit across multiple heat settings
  • Provides calibrated temperature control for safe, efficient drying
  • Failure may present as no heat or low heat, overheating, very long dry times, or inconsistent temperatures
  • Intended for models with multiple temperature selections
What's included: 1 cycling thermostat Install notes:
  • Unplug the dryer; shut off gas supply if applicable. Allow the appliance to cool before servicing.
  • Take a photo of wire positions; move wires to the new thermostat one at a time to matching terminals and ensure snug connections.
  • Remove/install mounting screws and seat the thermostat flat against the mating surface for proper sensing.
  • After reassembly, clear lint passages and verify proper vent airflow.
Diagnostic tips:
  • If there's no heat at all, also check the thermal fuse, high-limit thermostat, heating element (electric), or igniter/burner components (gas).
  • Restricted venting can mimic thermostat issues and cause overheating or long dry times.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Thermal fuse blew   John P. • Palm Coast , FL • January 02, 2016

Cleaned exhaust duct, but only from the dryer/laundry room side. Replaced thermal fuse. Unit worked for about two loads and thermal fuse blew again. This time I cleaned the exhaust vent on the roof of my 2-story house. It was found to be partially obstructed and I was able to remove a significant amount of lint from it. Also, I researched the problem and followed someone's advice to replace the cycling thermostat together with the thermal fuse if the thermal fuse blows. So far it has been... Read more

  • Dryer shutting off mid-cycle
  • No power to the dryer despite other electrical components functioning

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Our Maytag gas dryer was not producing heat— specifically it was cycling off after initially lighting   Timothy E. • Bellvue , CO • September 15, 2019

When I pulled out the dryer from the wall, I could see dust/lint had accumulated everywhere and the vent system was compromised. I vacuumed up the dust/lint accumulation outside and then inside the vent system. I then opened the lower cabinet to clean and check its condition. I removed the water steamer bottle and its sub-assembly and then the drum. After cleaning and inspecting components — both visually and with a multi-meter I determined the problem was the appliance doing what it was... Read more

Admiral Cutoff-Tml
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W11034847

The thermal cutoff is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This thermal cutoff plays an important safety role by automatically shutting off power to the dryer's heating element in the event of excessive temperatures.

The thermal cutoff is responsible for monitoring air temperatures inside the dryer drum and air ducts. As temperatures rise past safe levels, the thermal cutoff triggers, cutting power to prevent damage and possible fire hazards.

Causes of a bad thermal cutoff can include overheating from issues such as a clogged or blocked vent hose, venting into an unvented space, an accumulation of lint, or a failing vent switch.

Symptoms of a bad thermal cutoff include:

  • The dryer not heating up or heating unevenly
  • Repeatedly tripping the circuit breaker during operation
  • Scorching or burning odors detected from the dryer drum or vent

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.
