This is a genuine OEM replacement oil pump assembly found in many chainsaws to lubricate the saw bar and chain. This lubrication keeps the chain moving freely around the saw. Without lubrication, the chain would drag and hesitate when cutting, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Smoke or an overheating chainsaw are good indicators that there may be a problem with lubrication. Check to see if the oil is reaching the chain by turning on the saw and pressing the throttle all the way down, then moving close to a piece of wood.
