Electrolux Refrigerator Gasket & Seal

Walk into the kitchen on 21 Sep. Eight year old Frigidaire refrigerator appears to be short cycling, controls are nonfunctional. Unplug it for a few minutes, plug it back in, appears to return to normal function. Return to kitchen half hour 45 minutes later it's short cycling again. Removed freezer door by removing 4 bolts holding slide tracks for freezer basket. Pulled out old gasket. Soaked new gasket in hot water to smooth out a crease that resulted from shipping. Installed new gasket, starting at corners. Used a blunt tool to push new gasket into slot at the corners. Set remaining gasket material with hands. I believe we had two problems. Our gasket was ripped in several places and our drain pan line was clogged. Therefore the water was frozen and backing up into the freezer. Gasket and liner arrived as planned. Clips were a day later. Used "hog ring" pliers to remove the clips, worked great. Pre-punched holes in the gasket did not match the original but the plastic liner did. Used an ice pick to punch the gasket and inserted the clips. This is a chest freezer, so install the hinge side first. Read more

I removed the fresh food ice maker found the drain tube for ice maker frozen. This was causing the back of the unit to rust out. This also caused the water to run down the back of the unit the into the duct work and into the freezer causing ice buildup. I then defrosted the freezer removed the rear duct work and the freezer drain pan cover. I found the freezer drain was not draining. Volt Ohmmeter test indicated defrost thermostat and heater were OK. Defrost voltage measured ~25 VAC. I ordered all the most likely repair parts, but thought the control board had failed. I replaced the control board and the freezer has been working properly for several days. I haven't decided whether to keep or return the unused parts. I damaged the paint removing the electrical control. There must be a trick to protect the paint from the putty knife and screwdriver. Read more
