1. Unplug the power, 2. Removed the shelving and Ice maker including power cord, 3. Removed the air flow conduits, 4. Removed the back panel, 5. Removed evaporator fan housing and drop down then un clip power supply and remove evaporator fan housing and all and set on a flat surface, 6. Remove the upper bracket holding in evaporator and remove evaporator fan ( be sure to remove the fan blade you'll need it for the new motor ) 7. We bought a used fridge and forgot to get the hardware to mount the doors. Looked up the model on your website. Using the pictures I was able to order just the parts I needed and not to duplicate anything (or leave anything out!). Heater defroster part number AP5982425. I have GE model GTE16DTHCRBB. I found a Youtube video of a repair of a similar model. Getting the heater defroster out was not a piece of cake because you can not see the mounting due to it being behind the coils, same is true for reinstalling the new. There is a strap on top of the heater defroster that has to be connected to the heater defroster before being reinstalled. Had some confusion of what part I needed, needed the one with the motor and thermostat. Fortunately, I've been fixing wiring for many years, I simply cut the new motor out of the harness, and used that nice glue-inside-heat-shrink tubing to seal the soldered 'Western Union' style splices. New light socket and lamps fit fine, worked fine, new motor is fine, problem resolved. FYI: Look closely at the wiring in you unit, there are two wire harnesses, one feeds the light, the other feeds the motor... Read more

Common theme on the blogs was thermistors and or defrost heater/thermostat. Ran self-diagnostics which turned on defrost heater which was fine. Checked both door gaskets and tried to heat them back into shape but it did not work so I ordered the gasket replacements. they arrived two days later one was right the freezer door came in the wrong color but I used it anyways. It had a small tear in it which I repaired using super glue. Laid both gaskets out in the garage as they were warped pretty good. When we inspected the first time we found that Plactic had broken from the spiral part that for wards the ice. Also there were cracks in two places of other parts. There was a hole in the bottom of the bin. The new spiral was assembled and two new parts were replaced with help from the video and the diagram and the unit worked well.
