Kenmore / Sears Microwave Parts

I ordered a new magnetron and a new capacitor and after they arrived I set to work. I took plenty of pictures with my phone to remind me how the components came apart but it was pretty straight forward. Once the new parts were in and everything was reassembled the microwave worked good as new. The repair was less than a third the cost of replacement and no special tools are required. I tried getting this part from my knemore microwave on the Sears site. I chatted with someone, my part was backordered and when it finally came 2 months later it was wrong. So I am out shipping for that one. Then I went to Sears store and no one could help me. Couldn't even find the part on their sketches. Ordered the left and right latch, took off the trim ring, unscrewed the door face and removed it, replaced the latches and I was done! The reason these parts are so expensive is because they are METAL, not the cheap original plastic. Read more

Pretty easy fix. Took out 7-8 screws to remove cover for access to light. 2 were security type screws so I had to run to the hardware store to buy a special screwdriver. One screw to remove the bulb. Read more

Removed microwave from the built in cabinet (probably the hardest part) and took off top cover (screws on side and back). Had previously blown the power fuse 2 times in this microwave, so I checked the fuse first using an ohmmeter. This time fuse was good. Traced the power wires around to top side of microwave and saw the overheat "therm" switch.
