Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The washer appeared to be leaking   Michael M. • Newbury , MA • December 14, 2015

Based on info around the web and your site I chose to replace all of the bellowed hoses (3) in the machine, as I did not know which bellow was leaking without taking the washer apart first. If one hose was old enough to leak I figured the others were not far behind. The appliance parts pros videos were very helpful, although I chose to replace the drum drain bellows via access through the rear panel thereby saving myself the time of disassembling the front of the machine, as was instructed. Kenmore Gasket (Tub Service)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPW10111158

Service tub gasket that creates a watertight seal between the washer tub and cabinet. Replaces a worn or damaged seal to help stop leaks and limit water damage around the appliance. What it does:

  • Seals the tub opening to prevent water from leaking onto the floor during fill, wash and drain cycles.
  • Restores the seal that keeps moisture confined to the tub and reduces mildew buildup at the tub edge.
  • Helps eliminate spray and dripping that can occur with cracked, torn or hardened gaskets.
  • Supports normal drum/tub operation by maintaining the intended tub-to-cabinet seal.
What's included: One tub gasket Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and shut off water supply before starting any repair.
  • Inspect and clean mating surfaces before installing the new gasket; ensure proper orientation and seating into the groove or mounting channel.
  • Use original clamps or fasteners and tighten evenly; replace any missing or damaged mounting hardware before testing for leaks.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Loud banging noise from basket   Timothy H. • Akron , OH • May 01, 2015

Disassembled washer, found that 2 out of the 3 basket support legs had cracked through. Unfortunately, support cannot be bought except as an assembly, so had to spend almost $300 for the part. Bearings were worn, but not trashed, so I replaced them and the seal. Note, most parts places (including AppliancePartsPros.com) will only sell the bearings and seal as part of the rear tub assembly. The bearings are standard 6205 and 6206 sealed ball bearings, available from Grainger and many others for... Read more

Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8181673

The Tub Gasket is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. This gasket forms a crucial seal between the washer tub and the cabinet, both preventing water leaks and reducing noise and vibration.

Symptoms of a bad tub gasket include:

  • Water leaks from around the tub and cabinet interface
  • Excessive noise or vibration during spin and agitation cycles
  • Reduced washer balance resulting in thumping or off-center loads

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Drum bearing failed   James C. • Clinton , IN • August 17, 2014

I removed the drum, split it in half and replaced the bearings, seal and tub o-ring. Whirlpool did not offer the bearings without purchasing the back half of the tub for $350.00. I purchased a kit with a new seal for $75.00 and replaced them myself. Read more
