Our dryer seemed to be taking a long time to dry, often needing a couple cycles to complete the job. Then one day it stopped heating at all. The timer knob simply pulls off the shaft with a solid, steady pull. Cleaned the timer cavity of lint/dust buildup. Aligned the keying flat of the shaft and knob and pushed the new knob on with careful, steady pressure until it was obviously seated. No tools required other than a vacuum. The door switch would sometimes not shut the dryer off when the door was opened. New switch came with new fast-on connectors. I removed the front panel and observed the heating element while running the dryer. It was cycling off every minute or so and staying off for several minutes. Even though it was likely the high temp cycling thermostat I replaced both the 14, and 15 cycling thermostats which I think are the original factory units. That makes them nearly 35 years old. If I opened door and held door switch, started dryer, turned drum by hand, quickly closed door and pushed start again before drum stopped turning, dryer worked fine. Apparently the part of the motor that gives it more juice on start up went bad. Ordered motor on Monday, received on Wednesday. Blower wheel would not come off the shaft of old motor, chiseled off as shown in motor installation video. Apparently wheel becoming fused to motor shaft is a common problem based on all the comments.... Read more
