Brian, The air diffuser will open and close based a rod that goes from the freezer control to the diffuser.

Mr.Tracy for Model Number ED2FHEXVS03

So fridge has being getting colder(freezer about the same), to the point where I am now on number one on both sliders for temp control. I noticed crisper veggies are freezing as cold air drops down and settles there. Appears too much cold air pass thru may be occuring. I held a mirror up to the diffuser 3 different times today, and the opening inside is staying wide open. Do I have a diffuser problem--looks like you sell the assy for replacement--thanks! Tracy

1 Answer

Hello Mr. Tracy, the ref temp control slide connects to a rod that opens/closes a flapper in the air diffuser to control; air flow if the flapper is broken replace the diffuser, The part is WPW10151374.

Freezer is -20 degrees F, but the refrigerator is 54 degrees F. Replaced he Thermostat (Cold Control) Part # WP2315562 as suggested by AppliancePartsPros.com advisor. Problem persists. Doesn't appear to be a door leak because after opening the freezer door, and then closing it, the refrigerator door requires much more effort to open. Before replacing the part there was no ice buildup on the coils in the freezer side. There was no ice blocking the return vent in the refrigerator side, and the refrigerator is empty. When I replaced the Cold Control I had to remove the cover from the damper and saw that there was a narrow opening (3/4 inch) which appears to be the door controlled by the freezer temperature control in the refrigerator side as I could see it move when adjusting the freezer temperature. When viewing your video on replacing the damper control it looked like there were two doors in the damper control. Could the damper control be the problem since the freezer seems too cold and the refrigerator is too warm?

1 Answer

Larry, there are two ports in the damper WPW10151374 that are opened or closed by a single door. The damper would need to be inspected to identify if it is able to open and close manually. If it can, it would be likely that the evaporator fan WP2315549 has weakened and can not circulate the cold air properly based on the information provided.

Jeff for Model Number ED5JHEXTB00

I replaced the temperature control and the defrost TS on my refrigerator as it was getting too warm intermittently. It seemed to be working better for a week. Now I see that the icemaker chute and under the maker is getting frost And then I noticed ice forming on the refrigerator side of the air damper. I used a hair drier to melt all the ice last night but today I see it reformed. And it seems like the freezer is getting too cold now even set at a warmer setting as a test. I haven't tested that the damnper is operating exactly the way it should but I will try that out.

1 Answer

Jeff, it would be recommended that the refrigerator door gasket 2159083 is inspected for an air leak. It would also be recommended that the dispenser chute door WP2180353 and brackets W10823377 are inspected for an air leak or broken bracket. Frost normally occurs when moisture is allowed to enter into the unit from the outside atmosphere.

Hello Rick, You should check the air return at the bottom of the fresh food compartment for restrictions. Also, remove the rear wall of the freezer compartment and check for a frost build-up that would indicate a possible defrost issue.

Levi, If you look on the wall above the crisper there will be a vent. If this vent is clogged with ice you will need to clean the ice out. This is normally caused by humid air getting into the unit because of the door not sealing properly or not closing all the way.

1 Answer

Hello Pablo, Condensation and frost formation is caused by room humidity getting inside the unit. Check for an air leak around the door seals and at the ice door if no water is standing in the bottom of either compartment.

Gil, Yes, it could be the diffuser assembly WPW10151374 even if it is a mechanical operation, the control rod or linkage could have come dislodged or broke and the damper is stuck closed. You also want to check and make sure both doors close and seal properly, there aren't any articles hanging over the sides and back of the shelves and the vent cover on the center wall isn't blocked. Recheck and make sure the evaporator fan is running and make sure there isn't frost or ice built up on the rear wall of the freezer(defrost problem) blocking the air flow.

Hello Jack, If this is coming from the icemaker, you will need to replace the water valve W10408179. If it is condensing on the units' ceiling, you will need to check for a door seal air leak or possibly an ice door air leak.
