Edward, The control panel is sealed and is manufactured that way. You would have to buy the control panel based on the color of your unit.

Jeff Nj for Model Number Whirlpool-Dishwasher DU1055XTSD2

The only lights the come on when pressing keypad are under options - high temp wash, sani-rinse, heated dry. If I press high temp wash-heated dry 4 times it goes through a quick wash - rinse cycle and then all the lights go out. I already tested good the thermal unit and door switch for continuity. I replaced the control board with a used one i got on ebay and same results. Does it seem that the touchpad/control panel is bad? How do you open up the plastic to get the actual keys?

1 Answer

Jeff, If you look at the tech sheet on the unit there would be a key chart for the keys on the touchpad. You will want to do a continuity test on the keypad as the keys are not accessible. It does sound like the touchpad would be the correct part to replace.

Peter, In most cases it is the dispenser WPW10224428 that fails but you will want to check to make sure that there is power getting to the dispenser from the control board first. You can do this by running a diagnostics cycle which can be accessed by following the steps of the tech sheet.

Bob, You're on the right track, The most likely issue is a faulty circuit in the key pad ribbon circuit of the control panel WPW10021710. When you remove the inner door liner screws (6) to access and replace the the control panel, you'll also have access to the door latch and switch assembly, and can check and clean it further, if necessary "Remove the six (6) screws securing the control panel to the door frame. 2. The control panel will now drop down and be free of the door assembly. The wiring harness will remain connected to the console components. Removing the Electronic Control Board The electronic control board is located inside the console at the top of the dishwasher door. 1. Disconnect the ribbon connector and the wiring harness connectors from the electronic control board. 2. Use a flat bladed screwdriver to depress the holding tabs at the left end of the control board assembly while pulling up. Removing the Door Latch Assembly Release the tabs securing the door latch assembly to the control panel and lift the assembly out. 1. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the microswitch terminals. 2. Pull back on the two (2) plastic retaining tabs securing the microswitches to the door latch assembly and lift the microswitches out." Just remember to remove power to the dishwasher, before you start any repairs.

Hello Joe, When the clean light flashes it can only mean one of two things. It can mean that the clean button is stuck and the control panel WPW10021710 is in need of replacement or it can mean that the heating circuit has failed. The way to tell which has happened is that if the heating circuit has failed, the clean light will flash seven times with a pause and then flash seven times with a pause, etc. If this is the case, you need to troubleshoot the heating circuit. There are five components: the heating element, the high limit thermostat, the door switch, the control, and the wiring harness. There should be a tech sheet behind the kick panel which will show the wiring diagram. This should enable you to shoot through the circuit with an ohm meter. If it reads open from the control board, you will need to test each component individually. I have found that if the unit is solidly mounted under the counter top and is properly leveled, the heating element is the most common part to fail. Let us know if we need to render further assistance.

Hello Lemongrass. Based on the information you provided, and according to the manufacture, the control panel WPW10021710 should be replaced first. If the issue continues, you will need to replace the control board. If you order the panel from us, and it does not fix the issue, you can send it back and order the control board. Hope this helps.

Hello Lemongrass. Just grasp the sides of the connector on the end of the cable and pull it off the pins on the control board WPW10084142. The ribbon cable for the control panel WPW10021710 can only be installed 1 way due to the plastic glides. Hope this helps.
