For Whirlpool Dishwasher Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18056142)

Art L for Model Number MDBH969aws5

Clean light was doing the 7 flash. I put it in diagnostics mode then cleared the code. The dishwasher fills, the heating element gets hot, water does not fill to the heating element, just below, not sure if its suppose to. It sounds like it goes into wash mode and pumps sprays water for second then stops sits for minutes then drains. Water is not being sprayed inside the washer top or bottom. Washer is just over a year old. Could it be the control board??

Art, The clean light flashing 7 times is a indication of a heating circuit failure. Since the code reset and the unit went into operation then the issue would most likely be caused by a faulty control board especially with the heater now working. You will want to check the wiring harness as well.

Hello Dean, You can diagnose the compressor with current draw as long as you isolate the current drawn by the compressor. Otherwise, the unit could have a different component drawing the current and the compressor would be mis-diagnosed.

My 3 year old Whirlpool dishwasher stopped working tonight. I was clued in when I smelled an odd burning scent coming from the kitchen. The control panel lights were on (as if the unit was still finishing its cycle), but nothing was happening. There is still water at the bottom of the unit. A short time later, the control panel stopped lighting up altogether. I can't get it to respond at all. I shut off the breaker and opened up the control panel to see if the board had fried. However, the board looks fine and doesn't have the odor that originally tipped me off. The odor is strongest at the bottom of the dishwasher, but because of the standing water I haven't ventured to turn the unit over. My question is... how do you recommend I go about diagnosing this? Any ideas? I tested the power to the unit (good), but haven't been able to test power anywhere else. Is this a job for a professional, or can a DIYer (like myself) handle it. Thanks in advance.

Ron, Yes, It's a project you can do yourself. Remove power to the dishwasher, open the door, remove the screws that attach the inner door panel to the door frame. Slowly separate the panels, label and disconnect the wires as needed. Unclip the control cover panel, then carefully unclip the control board from the control panel(a flat blade screwdriver works good tool the release the tabs). Reverse the procedure and test the dishwasher operation.

Michel, If the unit has water in it when it is washing but looses all the water between the wash and the drain cycle then you will want to make sure that the unit is not siphoning the water out when washing. Make sure that the drain line is raised to the bottom of the countertop to create an airgap or make sure that if the unit is hooked up to an air gap that the airgap is not clogged. If this checks ok then the control board would be the issue.

John, The first thing that you will want to check is the thermal fuse to make sure that it is not blown. If the thermal fuse is blown then you will need to replace the fuse. Also check to make sure that the heater terminals look good.

Hello Chris, The first thing you should do is open the door liner to access the control, unplug the ribbon cable, and rub the end of the cable with a pencil eraser only toward the end of the cable to prevent damage to it. This is the best way to clean it. Reinsert it and re-try the unit. If the same issue exists, replace the control board (AP4588346).

Hello Johnny. Replace the board and try cleaning the control ribbon cable and see if it works. If not, then you will need to replace it as well.
