The Direct Drive Washer Pump is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is responsible for pumping water out of the washer during the drain cycle, ensuring that the washing machine drains efficiently after each wash.

Causes of a bad direct drive washer pump can include blockages from debris or foreign objects, wear and tear from regular use, damage to the pump impeller, or electrical issues affecting the pump motor. Over time, these factors can hinder the pump's performance, leading to operational issues.

Symptoms of a bad direct drive washer pump include:

  • Washer not draining water properly
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as grinding or humming
  • Water leaks from the bottom of the washer
  • Washing machine stopping mid-cycle due to drainage issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Clifford, You will want to check the drain pump for obstructions and or damage in which it is causing the motor to bog down to try to turn it. If the pump is faulty it could cause this effect or if there is something caught in it that would cause the pump to not want to turn.

Hello Wanda. You need to check and see if the lid switch is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Darrell, the issue with the washer is a mechanical issue, you will need to check the basket drive assembly, clutch and gearcase. We've made several attempts to provide you with the technical information you need for accessing and checking the components, but the e mails are returned as demon mailers. Please repost with an e mail address that will work and we'll try again. Thanks

Mark, You've looked far enough, the impeller shaft should turn rather freely, especially if you're using a tool. Apparently the pump shaft bearings are starting to seize and cause a "drag" on the motor. Replace the pump WP3363394 and you should be fine.

Originally, my washing was shaking a lot during the spin cycle. So I replaced the springs, but that didn't fix the problem. Then I replaced the suspension pads, the other pads that are plastic that snap into the metal frame, but that didn't fix the problem. So then I replaced the drive block and the tub gasket, and now it makes a loud banging noise only during the spin cycle. Then the coupler broke, so I replaced that, but it still makes a loud banging/clunking noise in the spin cycle. This is different than the original problem. It makes a clunk/bang noise about every second in the spin cycle. Please help. What is making the clunk/bang noise? I don't know what I did or what is the problem.

Kevin, It sounds like the drive block may not be in place properly and causing the tub to slip and bang. Double check the drive block and check the bottom of the inner tub to make sure that it is not damaged where it would meet with the drive block.

Kevin, With the unit not agitating, draining or spinning you will want to check the lid switch to make sure that it is good. The lid switch WP8318084 is the most common thing to fail in relation to the unit not draining, spinning or agitating.
