Aaron P. January 04, 2014 for Model Number Magic Chef W225LV Symptom-in spin cycle there is a flopping sound, like the belt is flopping. The belt has very little slack. The motor seems to move excessively to me, but I don't know how much it is supposed to move. The flopping sound is annoying. I checked the motor spring. It is in place but I don't know if it could be the problem. Separate issue One more thing.- it has a moderate squeak when the brake engages.
1 Answer Aaron, The motor should move freely on the plate assembly 21001783 especially the side to side motion. The motor tension spring could be the issue it may have lost it's tension over the years, but that's just a guess or suggestion, really. The belt WP21352320 may have stretched a bit, and of course you'll want to check the pulleys on the pump, transmission, and motor for possible side to side movement, or excess play or bent pulleys, or debris in the sheave of the pulleys. " it has a moderate squeak when the brake engages" this is caused by the brake pads mounted on the brake rotor WP35-6714 engaging on the brake stator WP35-6918. This is a "dry" brake assembly, and there is no lubrication to be done. You can remove the pulleys, etc., carefully remove the stator and rotor and clean both surfaces with fine emery cloth or replace both parts would be a better solution. You can operate the washer until the noise becomes unbearable if you wish. Read More...
John August 02, 2013 for Model Number LNC6762B71 Went to change belt and the motor seems to almost have no tension. The motor seems to be basically flopping around. Could the motor spring be disconnected or loose and what do I need to remove to get to the motor spring?
1 Answer Hello John. No, it is suppose to be loose so the belt can slip. If it is to tight, major damage can happen and the unit will not work properly. As long as the belt is not falling off the pulleys, it is good. You may have other issues if the unit is not working properly. Read More...
Diyman March 21, 2013 for Model Number MAV6000AWW Follow up to last question. I have changed the pump, belt, and put in the thrust washer kit. The brake releases with the arrow between the two marks. The motor moves freely in plate. When the unit goes to drain the motor still does not shift clockwise to make the basket spin and the water to drain out. I can smell rubber and it will leave light rubber dust near the motor pulley. I still can make it work properly if I manually move the motor on the base and hold it there until the water is removed. I can then release the motor and it will stay in position, but the basket slows down slightly. If I release the motor before the water drains out it will turn counter clockwise and the basket stops spinning and the pump does not drain the water. What does the motor spring do? Mine is rusty but attached. I am baffled!
1 Answer Hello Diyman. If the motor is not changing directions, you will need to order and replace the motor on the unit. The belt should slip some and not be to tight. Also, make sure the tub bearing is good and not roaring during the spin cycle. If so, that is your issue. Read More...
Diyman March 17, 2013 for Model Number mav6000aww Motor does not shift to tighten belt when agitator runs. Motor slides easily in track. New belt and water pump. If I manually move motor and hold it in place everything runs like it is suppose to. I am thinking thrust bearing p/n 12002213 needs to be replaced. Thanks!
Robin January 08, 2013 for Model Number PAVT920AWW Have a Maytag Performa Top Loader. Can wring excess water out of clothes after final spin cycle. Checked to see if hoses were stopped up, hoses were fine. Pump also checked, and was not stopped up. Changed belt, still same problem. Motor seems to have a lot of movement from side to side, is this normal?
1 Answer Hello Robin. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the thrust bearing 12002213 is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. Read More...
Donald October 25, 2012 for Model Number PAVT244AWW I pulled the motor off my washer & the motor spring fell off. I didn't notice where it came from. Could you tell me where it goes on the motor?
1 Answer Hello Donald, The motor spring goes on the wide part of the motor base. There is a hole there that it slides into and then connects to the side of the motor. Read More...
Aaron M October 02, 2012 for Model Number LNC6762B71 Series 19 My washer will spin on a low speed but when it comes time for it to really spin fast it wont but it acts like it wants to. I looked under the washer and messed with the belt and their is alot of slack in the belt it moves around when I pull on it. And does it have a motor spring if so how do you check it?
1 Answer Hello Aaron. It is normal for the motor to move and the belt to be loose. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the thrust bearing 12002213 is bad and will need to be replaced. Turn the large pulley by hand and make sure the mark on the pull and cam, when reached, releases the brake. if not, replace the kit 12002213. Read More...
Ghanem August 03, 2012 for Model Number pav5000aww Good morning, I have a washing machine Maytag PAV5000AWW that I have been using for ten years with no maintenance, but now the water doesn't drain out after finishing the wash cycle. Please, what seems to be the problem. Thanks.
1 Answer Hello Ghanem, You should tilt the machine up and remove the belt, (it's spring loaded so no tools will be necessary...only gloves so the black from the belt wear doesn't get on you). Manually turn the pump pulley which will be the small silver pulley in the right rear corner. If it makes noise, won't turn, or opposes rotation, the pump WP35-6780 will require replacement. If it seems okay, you probably have an article of clothing, (childs' underwear, sock, etc...), in the drain line before the pump or in the outer tub where the drain pump to tub hose connects to the tub. K. Y.Todd March 03, 2012 for Model Number MAV8757AWQ My washer goes to spin and just stops; you can shake it a little and it will take off. I seems to do this more before rinse cycle starts. There is no unusual noise. What could be wrong? I checked all connections
1 Answer Hi K.Y. This sounds from here that you need a lid switch part # WP22003804. Thank You. Read More...
Claude F. February 20, 2012 for Model Number MAV6548AWW My washer has bearing noise only in the wash cycle, spin cycle has no noise. Also, I found oil under the washer. Is this a possible Bad transmission???
1 Answer Hello Claude. First you will need to check and see if the noise is coming from the brake and stator or from the transmission assembly. Alot of times, the noise will come from the brake WP35-6714 and stator WP35-6918 and people think it is the transmission bad in the unit. When the unit is in agitate, the brake is engaged to hold the basket from spinning. If the brake is slipping, it will make a bad noise almost like a grinding, chirping sound, every time the agitator turns. If this is the case, you will need to replace the brake and rotor on the unit. if you replace the brake and rotor, it is wise to replace the snubber WP21002026 at the same time. If both are good, and the brake is not slipping, you will need to replace the transmission 35-6615. Hope this helps. Read More...
