Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Timer (Part Number: OEM18045249)

1 Answer

Hello Jim, This sounds like the lid switch (AP3180933) has either failed or some parts in the assembly have come loose, not allowing the lid switch not to be activated. The first thing you should do is open the lid and make sure the two screws on the far left side of the lid that holds the hinge assembly to the lid are tight. If they are tight, you will need to replace the lid switch.

When the final rinse cycle is entered, the water fills the tub and overflows, does not shut off. To complete the wash without overflowing, the water was must be manually shut off or the timer must be turned back to the spin cycle prior to the rinse cycle and when the rinse cycle is entered again, the it's okay. This is an intermittent problem, does not occur on every wash, happens about every fifth wash. Timer, water level pressure valve, or ???

EggMan, Yes, your first checks need to be at the water level switch W10339251 and hose. If the hose is twisted, kinked or clogged with deposits it can restrict the air flow to thee switch and cause the washer to overfill in the latter part of a cycle, or intermittently.

Alex for Model Number MVWC500VW1

Hi, my washer is not filling with water - when I start the cycle, it's immediately starting agitating. If I fill it manually with water it works, and drains the water, but for the rinse I have to fill it with water again. When it's spinning the cold water IS coming from the valve. And it doesn't stop at the end of the cycle - it's going on for the extra rinse, and further. I've replace the water inlet valve, but it didn't help. What is it most likely? The timer, or the temperature sensor, or pressure sensor, or anything else - the best guess?

1 Answer

Hello Alex, The unit should not agitate until the water level has been satisfied. You may want to check your hose for the pressure switch to make sure that it is not clogged causing the unit to sense that the water level has been satisfied. If the hose or the air dome on the side of the tub are clear then you would want to replace the pressure switch W10339251. If the unit is going to the extra rinse cycle without being selected then you need to check the switch. In the off position it should not have continuity. Only continuity when closed. If closed when off then you would need to replace the extra rinse switch WPW10168262. If the switch is good then you would need to replace timer WPW10111389. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Monique, Yes, it is most likely the timer WPW10111389. You may have a loose connection in the wiring harness connector block, but i's more likely a faulty contact in the timer. Thanks

Fatboy, You're on track, Based on the post description, you most likely have a "sticky" contact inside the time WPW10111389. When you turn the timer dial, you make and break the contacts inside and they make proper contact and the washer resumes proper operation.

Hello Hayjoe! Sounds like the pressure switch or inlet valve is failing. A good way to verify which part is failing is by doing the following test: Start a cycle and let the washer start to fill with water. Unplug the unit. If the unit continues to run, the inlet valve WP8578343 is at fault. If the unit stops filling with water you will need to check the pressure switch hose running from the switch to the tub to make sure it is not kinked or clogged. If the hose is ok you will need to replace the pressure switch, part number W10339251. Hope this information helps you, thanks!
