Limit Switch (Primary)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP74004530

Primary limit switch that interrupts the heating circuit when temperatures exceed safe limits to prevent overheating. Replacing this switch restores the appliance's temperature safety control and helps return normal heating behavior. What it does:

  • Monitors temperature and breaks power to the heating element when the preset limit is reached.
  • Acts as a safety cutoff to help prevent overheating and related damage.
  • A failed-open switch commonly causes no heat or intermittent heating.
  • A failed-closed switch can allow excessive heat or repeated thermal trips.
What's included: One primary limit switch. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing to avoid shock or injury.
  • Note terminal locations and wiring before removal; reconnect each wire to its original terminal.
  • Handle the part and terminals carefully to avoid damage; secure fasteners firmly but do not overtighten.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The broiler in the upper oven of a maytag gemini did not work   Paul S. • Livonia , MI • March 06, 2015

I removed the oven back and I verified conductivity of the boiler element with an ohm meter. I then checked for a loose connection on the switch. The switch lead on one side was loose in the body of the switch. I replaced the limit switch and the broiler now works. Replacing the switch is simple but you may need to open the wire connecting lug as you want it to fit snugly but not force it on as this switch seems a little flimsy. Read more

Thermostat (Mgt)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB20X10003

Replacement thermostat that senses and controls the appliance heating system to restore accurate heating and stable temperature cycles, helping the appliance reach and maintain the set temperature. What it does:

  • Senses temperature and signals the heating element or valve to turn on/off to maintain set temperature.
  • Commonly linked to symptoms such as failure to reach set temperature, temperature fluctuating or cycling erratically, or continuous heating.
  • Works as the temperature-regulation component in the appliance's control pathway to stabilize performance.
  • Matches the OEM function for temperature control; use when thermostat diagnostics indicate a failed or inaccurate sensor.
What's included: One thermostat. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before attempting removal or installation to avoid shock or ignition hazards.
  • Handle the sensing element and terminals carefully to avoid damage; ensure secure electrical connections and proper routing of any capillary or sensor lead.
  • After installation, test the appliance through a full heat cycle to confirm correct operation.

Limit Switch (Oven Door Lock)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB24T10117

This limit switch is a small position-sensing microswitch used in the oven door lock system. It tells the control when the latch is open or closed so the door can lock/unlock correctly and self-clean can run safely.

  • Detects the oven door latch position and sends an on/off signal to the control
  • Helps prevent self-clean from starting unless the latch is in the correct position
  • Common symptoms: door won't lock or unlock, self-clean won't start or cancels, "lock door"/F9-style lock errors
  • Restores proper latch feedback so the control knows when the door is locked
What's included: One limit switch Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing
  • Access the door lock/latch assembly; note wire positions and orientation of the old switch
  • Transfer wires one at a time and mount the new switch in the same orientation so the actuator engages the latch cam
  • After reassembly, verify latch operation before starting a self-clean cycle
