Range Oven Control Or Thermostat

Following the instructions that I received through the helpful research of the APP staff, I disconnected the power, disassembled the back of the oven, and accessed the hidden element. Took off the gas burners, propped up the top, took out the old thermostat and wired the new one in. Getting the capillary tube down to the lower oven was a problem. I used a string taped to the old one when I pulled it out, but when I pulled the new one down to the hole in the oven, it would not go in.The hole was straight into the oven, and there was not enough space to turn the long straight bulb to go into the hole. Removed microwave from the built in cabinet (probably the hardest part) and took off top cover (screws on side and back). Had previously blown the power fuse 2 times in this microwave, so I checked the fuse first using an ohmmeter. This time fuse was good. Traced the power wires around to top side of microwave and saw the overheat "therm" switch. Started with checking temp control in the oven. Worked fine. Next was testing high limiter switch. Every place stated switch was on the back panel, found mine place under the right burner cartridge. Took some finagling to expose it. Bought a new one, two wires to disconnect along with two small screws to secure switch, slapped it in and I was in business. Oven that was out of commission for over two weeks (never buy a part from Sears, always deal with APP's!) was on the road again! Read more

• No heat or not enough heat

Looked at how-to video at Appliancepartspros.com. Took back off dryer thinking I needed to replace heating element. Found loose thermostat wire that had corroded. Spade connector on wire fell off. Stripped wire of insulation and steel-wooled the exposed wires. Replaced spade connector. Found out thermostat connection had broken loose. One of the slip nuts was seized and was twisting the line when I turned it for removal. I was able to remove the other two lines and hold the nut with a wrench and spin the switch assembly in order to disconnect this line without damaging it. I attached the new switch with the same technique.
