Range Oven Control Or Thermostat
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP9759944
This fixed thermostat switches near 60C to control a heat-managed circuit—often the oven's cooling/blower fan. Replacing a failed unit restores proper fan cycling and helps protect the control area from excessive heat during and after cooking.
- Monitors temperature in the oven cabinet/control area and switches power based on heat level
- Cycles the cooling/blower fan on and off to manage cabinet temperature
- Helps safeguard electronic controls from heat buildup
- Failure may cause symptoms such as a fan that won't run, a fan that runs continuously, or an unusually hot control area
What's included: 1 fixed thermostat (60C, SPST) Install notes:
- Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing
- Access the thermostat per your model; it is typically mounted to a plenum or bracket near the oven cavity
- Move wires one at a time and mount the new thermostat flat against the surface for accurate sensing
- Restore power and verify the fan cycles during operation

Oven had a burnt out hidden bake element and was not heating properly Christopher A. • Auburn , AL • April 23, 2017
Following the instructions that I received through the helpful research of the APP staff, I disconnected the power, disassembled the back of the oven, and accessed the hidden element. This involved bending parts of the sheet metal and cutting the insulation, so I was very apprehensive about doing this. Once I exposed the compartment that contains the element, I had difficulty extracting the old part and was really nervous about pulling hard to extract it - until I saw the damaged element. It...

Top-heat thermostat that controls the oven's upper heating circuit to maintain proper temperature. Replacing a failing thermostat restores consistent broil/top-bake performance and helps the oven reach set temperatures reliably. What it does
- Regulates the oven's top/broil heating element by cycling the circuit on and off to hold set temperatures.
- Restores proper top-heat and browning when a failed thermostat causes inconsistent or weak broil performance.
- Addresses symptoms such as broil not activating, uneven top browning, or the oven struggling to reach set temperatures.
- Works with the oven's control system to maintain safe, repeatable top-heat operation.
What's included One thermostat. Install notes
- Disconnect power to the appliance at the breaker or unplug before starting; allow the oven to cool completely.
- Access varies by model; remove the required control or oven panels to reach the thermostat.
- Label or photograph wiring before disconnecting so connectors are returned to their original positions.
- After installation, restore power and verify proper broil/top-heat operation.

Lower oven never worked bad thermostat Fred S. • Santa Barbara , CA • January 24, 2016
Took off the gas burners, propped up the top, took out the old thermostat and wired the new one in. Getting the capillary tube down to the lower oven was a problem. I used a string taped to the old one when I pulled it out, but when I pulled the new one down to the hole in the oven, it would not go in.The hole was straight into the oven, and there was not enough space to turn the long straight bulb to go into the hole. Used a dremal and cut into the outer panel enough to get it turned. Covered...

Umc5200bas06 model microwave no power (would not turn on and no clock display) Stephen L. • Corpus Christi , TX • February 11, 2015
Removed microwave from the built in cabinet (probably the hardest part) and took off top cover (screws on side and back). Had previously blown the power fuse 2 times in this microwave, so I checked the fuse first using an ohmmeter. This time fuse was good. Traced the power wires around to top side of microwave and saw the overheat "therm" switch. I believe the therm is installed there as a safety feature to open the power circuit to the microwave in case something was to overheat for any...

- Commonly replaced when the oven won't reach or maintain set temperature or cycles on/off too frequently
- Works as the temperature control interface between the oven sensor and the heating elements
What's included:
- One modulating thermostat assembly
Install notes:
- Disconnect power to the appliance before beginning any repair to avoid shock or injury
- Handle thermostat and any attached sensing bulb or probe carefully; avoid kinking or damaging sensing components
- Verify wiring location and routing before removal; transfer all connectors exactly as removed

Oven thermostat switch would not rotate to off position and required replacement Doris C. • Lewisville , AR • December 23, 2019
One of the slip nuts was seized and was twisting the line when I turned it for removal. I was able to remove the other two lines and hold the nut with a wrench and spin the switch assembly in order to disconnect this line without damaging it. I attached the new switch with the same technique. I found it easier to remove the squeeze clips holding the oven temperature sensor (connected to the switch assembly) on the back wall for removal and replacement instead of attempting it reaching to the...
