Oven won't light even with glowing igniter? Safety valve controls gas flow to burner. Moderately easy repair with gas line disconnect required.
My tenant thought that the oven safety valve was bad, but after some research, I found that the transfer of heat from the igniter had to be sufficient enough to cause the valve to open.Your agent confirmed this and reassured me that even if the igniter was glowing, there was a 99% chance that it wasn't getting hot enough. I ordered the igniter, and also the safety valve just in case, as we were going to be fixing this on Christmas eve, so the oven could be used for Christmas dinner. Your agent... Read more

Burner won't light or flame is weak? This gas valve controls flow to your range surface burner for reliable ignition and heat control. Moderate DIY.
Replaced the old valve with a new one from AppliancePartsPros.com. I watched one of the YouTube videos to get an idea of what the process would entail. I gathered the tools I would require, plus a work light. The repair/replacement went pretty good. One thing the video I watched didn't cover was adjusting the valve for a propane system. I compared my old valve to the new one and saw that I would have to screw down the oven gas outlet until it "bottomed out". Read more
Range won't heat but igniter glows? A faulty safety valve blocks gas flow even when the igniter works. Moderate DIY repair, 1-2 hours with basic tools.
APP Tech & Sales staff helped me diagnose the problem, we agreed that it was "most likely" the Safety Valve. It arrived the next day and I just installed it.BINGO! Just in time.My reward is my wife's awesome Christmas cookies. It was reassuring to know that I could return the part if it didn't solve the problem especially since I had already wasted money on a misdiagnosed part from another supplier that doesn't accept returns. I'm not too handy and you have to take the door off and a bunch of... Read more
Oven won't heat or ignite? A faulty gas control valve prevents gas flow to the burner. Moderate DIY repair restores reliable baking in 1-2 hours.
I found I could "rap" on my broiler/oven control valve and the oven would light, so I ordered a new control valve. Installing valve was not difficult except for having to lay on the floor and work in a small space. After installation, the oven lit only ONE time...and the boiler/oven problem was unchanged....broiler would light, but not oven. (Both incandescent pilots would glow brightly, so I did not suspect the igniter/pilot.) A friend suggested I swap ignitors anyway...and indeed, the... Read more
Oven won't light even though igniter glows? Burner lights only when valve is tapped? Replace the dual gas safety valve. DIY install in under 1 hour.
From the Appliance Parts website I watched a 3 minute Youtube video. The video actually explained the process on another range but it was enough information for me to do the project myself. The part came 2nd day UPS and I installed it in under an hour. The only hitch was that I didn't see the note (maybe it wasn't there) that explained how the valve is set for Natural gas and that for LP gas I'd need to adjust the jet that goes into the burner tube. Maybe that was on the video. Read more

Oven won't heat but broiler works? This safety valve controls gas flow to bake and broil burners. Common when one side fails but the other still works.
After moving a 20 year old GE XL44 stove, we began to notice a faint propane smell from the oven. After dabbing soapy water over every connection, we could see it was coming out of the broiler nozzle. Using the AppliancePartsPro web site, we could quickly identify the valve part we needed. We assumed we would be without our stove (gas off for safety) for at least a week, but almost miraculously, it arrived the next day! A few simple tools in a hard to reach place and the repair was complete.... Read more
