Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dryer would not turn on   Kathie R. • Burlington , WI • January 15, 2016

The dryer is a Kenmore Laundry Center, model 417-99570150. Bought in 1998, so it is an older model. Not wanting to buy the newer ones that are out now. We opted to fix the Kenmore. Just believe the older models are worth fixing, if at all possible. Frist we had to figure out what parts we would need and if the cost would be worth our time. I went on YouTube: and type in Kenmore dryer not turning on. Watched several videos to narrow down the possible problem. Next step was to... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Broken handle on refrigerator door   Margaret J. • North Olmsted , OH • January 29, 2016

I ordered a replacement handle and screws. The process was very easy with the help of one of your "pros" who found all the parts needed and took my order. I didn't realize I was getting both a refrigerator door handle and a freezer door handle in one set, but now we have the freezer handle if we need it. Removing the old handle and installing the replacement was very easy. It looks great, in fact the replacement is metal, whereas the original was plastic, so it looks better than it ever did! • The washing machine making unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • The agitator not moving or moving erratically
  • Visible damage or cracks on the agitator

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Broken fins on agitator   Annetta H. • Crane , MO • September 23, 2014

This was a fairly easy fix. The only problem I had was that the cover over the retaining nut was difficult to pull off. I changed to a larger pair of pliers and put a little more muscle to it and it popped right out. There was a little corrosion on the shaft that needed to scraped off for the new agitator to slide on easily but after that was gone the new part slid on and with some downward pressure it seated in. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Old smelly washer bellow.   Gary M. • Hood River , OR • October 19, 2023

Removed old bellow following procedures found on relevant Youtube videos. Reinstalling however was more of a challenge. Getting the rear seal of the new bellow on the washer housing was not as easy as the videos indicated. The key to that process is being sure the seal is well lubricated which is not quite apparent from the videos but is essential success. Once the rear seal is installed, reapplying the rear spring was accomplished with the spring clamps as per the videos. Be sure to... Read more

I took the cover off the transmission and determined that the only possible knocking had to be coming from the yoke. I ordered a new yoke and all the tub seals needed to put it back together like new. I also ordered a new drive pulley bearing because this bearing is always turning whenever the washer is used. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Clothes getting stuck in front of dryer then later on a grinding and loud noise when spinning   Michael G. • Chicago , IL • August 23, 2020

I'm new to how a dryer works, so I just started taking it apart to see what exactly was causing it. The video examples on the APP website were all amazing. It gave me a good idea of what I was getting into and showed me the common repair issues. The dryer being 12 years old, I was on the fence about repairing or replacing. However, once I got a list of parts I might need and getting the confidence by watching the videos, I said "what have I got to lose." The cause of the scraping and loud... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washing machine wasn't draining properly and the drain pump sounded loud and whiny   Chris S. • Boulder , CO • March 30, 2014

Replace the drain pump after watching a video demonstrating the process. The washing machine had run properly and emptied, so I was surprised how much water remained in the pipe after disconnecting the old pump. Plan on having 2-3 large towels underneath before removing it. The most difficult part (and most irritating) was replacing the intake and outtake hoses with the existing spring clamps. The drain hose into the pump took almost twenty minutes to attach properly. If the hardware store was... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Severe banging during spin cycle   Vince V. • Benson , AZ • March 03, 2019

With more difficulty and frustration than expected but it works fine now. Things learned: 1. Order only 3 replacement pins. One comes with the shocks that you can't be sure you see in the picture. 2. A circuit board in a plastic box mounted to the floor, left rear, must be removed by two screws to be able to get pliers onto the head of the pin more easily. This helps installation too. 3.
