The dryer is a Kenmore Laundry Center, model 417-99570150. Bought in 1998, so it is an older model. Not wanting to buy the newer ones that are out now. We opted to fix the Kenmore. I ordered a replacement handle and screws. The process was very easy with the help of one of your "pros" who found all the parts needed and took my order. I didn't realize I was getting both a refrigerator door handle and a freezer door handle in one set, but now we have the freezer handle if we need it. This was a fairly easy fix. The only problem I had was that the cover over the retaining nut was difficult to pull off. I changed to a larger pair of pliers and put a little more muscle to it and it popped right out. There was a little corrosion on the shaft that needed to scraped off for the new agitator to slide on easily but after that was gone the new part slid on and with some downward pressure it seated in. Removed old bellow following procedures found on relevant Youtube videos. Reinstalling however was more of a challenge. Getting the rear seal of the new bellow on the washer housing was not as easy as the videos indicated. Washer won't drain or makes loud whining noise? This drain pump removes water between cycles. DIY repair takes 30-40 minutes with basic tools.
Replace the drain pump after watching a video demonstrating the process. The washing machine had run properly and emptied, so I was surprised how much water remained in the pipe after disconnecting the old pump. Get some acetone at a Hardware Store before you start. A pint will do. Unplug the dryer from 110 VAC. Pull the top off of the dryer, by lifting it from the front first. It is attached with snap metal fittings. Do not completely remove the top, just tip upright to gain access to the front interior of the dryer. This is a multi-ribbed drive belt that connects the motor to the wash drum, allowing the drum to spin and agitate during wash and spin cycles. Over time the belt can stretch, crack, or break from normal wear. Replace this belt if the washer drum won't spin or agitate, if you hear a burning rubber smell, or if the motor runs but the drum does not move.
With more difficulty and frustration than expected but it works fine now. Things learned: 1. Order only 3 replacement pins. One comes with the shocks that you can't be sure you see in the picture. 2. The blower wheel center was worn down and spinning freely on shaft. Removing front covers, controls and brackets gave access to blower, which front half came off removing screws. (One screw underneath bracket) Pushed new blower on. (It's keyed and has small tabs that line up with groove on shaft). Installed clamp, reassembled and tested. Watched the video here, took the leap that burner was the problem and ordered it. Also found another vid on you tube that was more specific to my Kenmore. Tip: find out how to take off the oven door. For mine it was very easy but not detailed in the APP vid. I followed instructions in APP vid but also first took off back panel of range and tested resistance of old burner to ensure that was truly the problem (as suggested by other YT vid).
