This was a Maytag DE312 actually a Whirlpool labeled as Maytag) and is 27 years old. Replaced motor, drive belt and drum rollers. One tricky part was the motor because the new motor comes with integral starter and it was necessary to cut off existing female spade connectors on some wires and crimp on new connectors. Instructions were adequate but need to be carefully followed and a decent electrical stripping and crimping tool must be at hand. I bought a new motor drive pulley because another... Read more

This Maytag dryer was bought in 1985 if memory serves. It has worked hard with few repairs done by yours truly over the years. Thanks to the engineering and excellent design by Maytag staff, removing parts are relatively easy. Once I opened the unit, I found it to be full of lint. I cleaned the entire inside and the vent pipe duct work. I found the blower wheel assembly worn. Though it was not cause of my problem, I decided to change it along with the igniter, heater relay and the fan belt. I... Read more

I replaced the motor and all other moving components along with the felt drum seals.drum glides and drive belt. The wiring instruction is where i had the most problems. Because my wiring had only 4 wires in the harness not 5, and one was a different color then the instructions call out, I believe was because it might have been and older model. the instruction called for a gray wire but mine was white with a blue piggy back wire attached. but after finding a few videos on line i figured that the... In the past, I replaced some electronic components on our gas dryer, the solenoid and the electronic ignitor, but the rest of the dryer looked more difficult to repair if needed in the future. I was wrong. I went unto AppliancePartsPros.com and watched some repair videos on dryers like mine that make big thumping sounds while drying. This happened when I googled my dryer model number in an attempt to find out is capacity, because I wanted our new dryer to have the same capacity. I found out... Read more

Upon removal of the lower inspection panel on the front of the machine, my 20 year old son thought the motor was bad by the smell. But he did discover what turned out to be the belt tensioner pulley laying inside the machine. After he pronounced it dead, without a thought to the idler pulley, I looked at the machine and determined the lack of movement was due to the idler pulley having "fallen" off the shaft by looking at the illustrated parts break down provided on this website. Ordered the... Read more

I'm new to how a dryer works, so I just started taking it apart to see what exactly was causing it. The video examples on the APP website were all amazing. It gave me a good idea of what I was getting into and showed me the common repair issues. The dryer being 12 years old, I was on the fence about repairing or replacing. However, once I got a list of parts I might need and getting the confidence by watching the videos, I said "what have I got to lose." The cause of the scraping and loud... Read more

Our Maytag gas clothes dryer was not drying like it should/used to and was making a lot of noise. After researching online I figured the vent was partially blocked and/or the blower wheel was bad. When I took it apart, the vent had very little lint in the lower elbow exiting the back of the dryer but the blower wheel was loose on the shaft and was missing the clamp. I cleaned out the vent and put a hose clamp on the blower wheel to tighten it to the shaft and tried it again. The noise was... Read more

Pivoting metal arm that maintains belt tension in your dryer's drive system. Replace if bent, cracked, or wobbling excessively when drum is removed.
I removed the front panel of the dryer by removing 2 screws and lifting it up and out. Then I removed 4 screws from the bracket holding the tub in place. I had previously removed the 4 screws from the rear inspection cover so I reached in and released the spring loaded belt that turns the tub and then removed the idler pulley wheel. The tub just lifts out at that point, exposing the 2 Drum support rollers in the rear. I removed the 2 rear drum support rollers and decided to order 2 of... Read more

Dryer won't heat? A broken heating element is the most common cause. This coil provides heat for drying cycles. DIY repair typically takes 1-2 hours.
I took off the front cover and checked the sensors which were all good. Then I removed the cover for the heating coil after finding that it appeared open. Found that the coil had in fact broken but the break was not visible just by looking in. Located the break in the coil within an insulator near the back. I checked appliance stores locally and found the coil for far more than Appliance Parts Pros wanted for it. I placed an order after chatting with a tech, I placed and order and had it in... Read more
