We ordered a replacement Lower Dishrack KIt which arrived in a very timely manner. I was surprised to see the order included a utensil rack as ours was fine and we had not ordered one. After installing the dishrack, we discovered the old rack was obsolete. After I double checked that the unit did have power to it, I concluded it was probably a switch or the User Interface Board. I followed the directions on several websites for repairs. The obvious place to start is the heating coil and thermostat. I checked the continuity of the coil and it was good with a reading of almost zero resistance. Next I read that there is no thermostat controls on my GE dishwasher so I followed another webpage that said the Sensor Turbidity Assembly acts like a thermostat so I replaced that. Upon taking the door apart it looked like the leak was coming from the vent so I replaced the vent cap, vent seal and the transition piece. I did not have to change the seals. It took me a while to figure out how to get the door apart, but once I did, it was fairly straightforward. Read more

Removed the lower rack, removed the lower wash arm, removed the lower coarse filter, removed fine filter ( still no tools require to this point). Removed two 1/4" head screws with nut driver to then remove float switch, unplugged float switch, plugged in new switch, reinstalled filter, etc. This is a 5 minut job! Read more

I viewed youtube videos and followed the instructions on how to determine the cause of the problem. I cleared the lines and poked my fingers in to check for obstructions. But in the end, the drain pump was the problem. The pump came in the mail the next day. The job required the pump and only one of the hose clamps as the original setup has one single ear clamp which can be removed with wire cutters and a standard one which I re-used. Our GE was installed about 8 years ago and was AWESOME for much of its early life. However, progressively its cleaning ability diminished. By replacing all the spray arms (clogged with debris), filters, drain hose, and sump...this dishwasher cleans like it did when it was new! Cost was around $100 (also replaced a wheel and the silverware basket) and labor was relatively simple. And to think...my mother-in-law said, "Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a new one?!?". I figured it was the valve, but searching on the Appliance Parts site, somebody said they fixed it by replacing the switch flood assembly. So I order both parts. The Switch Flood Assembly was easiest to replace, so I decided to try that first. When I pulled out the old assembly, I noticed it did not 'rattle', as the new one did. Tried CLR to remove hard water deposits. That did not help. Ordered new dispenser. The GE series that the detergent module fits in was a little difficult to open. Finally found a video explaining the whole door had to come off in order to open it up to replace the module. Works great now. Read more

Based on our research, the dishwasher latch was one of the most common causes for our model of dishwasher malfunctioning. We purchased this replacement unit, and thanks to the help provided via videos and diagrams, my wife and I were able to very easily install the new latch.
