This replacement blade adapter is an authentic OEM part for a riding lawn mower. The blade adapter is located in the lower deck of a lawn mower and connects the blade to the motor shaft. As the shaft rotates, it spins the adapter, causing the blade to rotate and cut grass. The adapter locks into place so that it doesn't come flying off during operation. The adapter is made of durable steel so that it is not easily damaged, but if the blade strikes something quite hard, it can break the adapter, causing the blade to spin unevenly, or even bending the motor shaft. If left unattended to, it can be dangerous for the operator, as the blade could potentially break off from the mower. Replacing the adapter can be a little finicky, as they are generally quite tightly locked into place. There are special adapter keys that make it easier to remove, but the same effect can be achieved with a screwdriver or a pair of pliers.
