I ordered the capacitor, diode, and magnetron in hopes that I would be able to complete the repair using the less expensive parts. I first removed the oven from the wall and then I removed the metal housing to access the internal parts. I discharged the capacitor using a pair of insulated needle nose pliers. This particular model GE Profile series has the fiberglass gasket on the door mounted with spring clips made into the gasket. With needle nose pliers I gently squeeze the spring clips together to remove. Repeated process around. I installed new gasket be simply pushing new tabs in place. Repair was really simple. Removed power from stove to insure igniter would not fire. Removed parts to gain access to 2 screws securing burner bowls to stove top. Removed screws. Lifted up burner bowl and disconnected igniter wire from igniter and removed old burner bowl seal. If your gas range display is blank, oven won't heat, or temperature climbs uncontrollably, the control board likely failed. Moderately easy DIY repair.
Replaced control panel and overlay it was very easy. Just four screws and a few connectors.. If you plan on replacing the control board be sure to order a new overlay also. It makes the repair so much easier. Read more
