I went on the internet and researched the problem and figured out that it was the igniter that went bad (very common). So I ordered the part but found that it was shipped poorly and was defective.(tested it with a multimeter- looked on the internet to know how to use it) when it arrived. I started searching for the model number online and GE did not have any info but I found appliancepartspro.com, they had the control board which I was looking for, so I called them before I bought it, they confirmed the part and put the order in. Removed the surrounding bezel, unplugged the bad part and plugged in the new one. One consideration, the plug is a little tricky, press each side of the plug, pull outward 1/8 " the old wiring should then slip out. Reverse procedure to install. Read more

A word of caution - Due to not fully analyzing the situation upfront, I ultimately replaced more parts than necessary. So don't forget to check the spark module (the little electronic gadget that powers all the igniters), rather than jumping to the conclusion that the individual igniter or associated igniter cord is the problem (as I mistakenly did). Simple fix. Our oven is a GE dual fuel (gas burners on top, electric elements inside) model # J2S968SOH4SS. The lower element hidden underneath the bottom drip cover stopped heating. I had to remove the front door of the oven which is also easy to remove in order to slide out the lower drip cover. Instructions to do this are in the owners manual. Before removing the element I put the oven on bake to test the element and held my hand just above the element to feel for heat which there was none.... Read more
