Jenn-Air Relay, Overload, Capacitor

The Compressor Start Relay is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This component helps to kickstart the compressor, facilitating the refrigeration cycle that cools the interior of the fridge. 

Such issues can stem from electrical failures within the relay, physical damage, or wear and tear from regular use. When the relay does not function correctly, it can lead to inconsistent cooling and, in severe cases, cause the compressor to overheat and fail prematurely.

Symptoms of a failing Compressor Start Relay include:

• The refrigerator not cooling properly or not cooling at all
• A noticeable clicking sound emanating from the back of the refrigerator, indicating the relay is trying to start the compressor but failing
• The refrigerator starts and stops frequently, unable to maintain a constant temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

This overload protector is a safety device that mounts on the compressor and opens the circuit if overheating or excessive current is detected. Replacing a failed protector can help restore reliable compressor start-up and protect the motor from damage.

• Monitors compressor temperature/current and interrupts power during an overload condition
• Helps prevent compressor overheating and winding damage
• Common symptoms: refrigerator not cooling, compressor won't start, clicking or humming then shutting off, repeated cycling from the rear machine compartment
• Visible heat damage or a burnt odor at the start device area may indicate failure

• Disconnect power before servicing; work in a well-ventilated area
• Access the rear machine compartment; remove the cover to reach the compressor start assembly
• Note wire positions and orientation; the overload fits on the compressor terminal alongside the start device/relay—seat it fully and securely
• Inspect connectors for heat damage and ensure tight, clean terminals before restoring power

Due to manufacturer changes this kit includes PTC start device, overload, electrical cover, jumper wire and instructions.

This start relay controls power to the compressor's start winding so the refrigerator can start and run. Replacing a weak or burned relay restores dependable compressor start-up and can stop repeated clicking with warming temperatures.

• Energizes the compressor's start winding to provide initial torque, then disengages from the circuit
• Common failure symptoms: refrigerator not cooling or intermittently warm; compressor hums/clicks and won't start; relay rattles, smells burnt, or shows heat damage; overload trips
• Helps prevent hard-start conditions that stress the compressor
• The relay contacts are open/shorted, the compressor may fail to start and cycle off on overload

• Disconnect power before servicing; wear appropriate PPE
• Access the rear machine compartment; remove the relay cover on the compressor. Note wire positions, pull the old relay straight off the compressor pins, transfer wires, and fully seat the new relay in the same orientation
• If equipped, safely discharge the run capacitor; inspect the overload, wiring, and terminals for heat damage and address as needed
• Reinstall the cover. If the compressor still won't start, further diagnosis of the start device, capacitor, or compressor is required

This motor overload protector helps prevent the dryer motor from overheating by cutting power when excessive current or heat is detected. It restores normal operation when the motor cools or the overload is replaced. What it does:

• Protects the dryer motor from damage by interrupting power during overheating or overcurrent conditions
• Commonly used when the dryer motor won't start, hums but doesn't run, or the motor trips repeatedly
• Works with the motor start system to reduce the risk of burned windings and costly motor failure
• Resets or is replaced to restore normal motor operation after an overload event
