Kenmore / Sears Ice Door Or Ice Chute

• Door sweating
• Frost buildup
• Ice maker won't dispense ice
• Freezer not defrosting

My refrigerator is 13 yrs old and began to build up frost in the ice cube shoot and the water tube began to freeze up over night. The flapper door was not closing completely. I simply removed the control panel by pulling up and out on the bottom edge, the edge is only about 1/8 inch thick, so don't reach in to far. I wasn't sure if it was the door being warped, the spring return being worn, or the rotary damper failing, so I ordered all to update the door mechanism. I also ordered a new micro switch since one of the switches had started to require more and more pressure to actuate. Figured I'd fix it at the same time. Unplug fridge. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the single screw underneath the display. Also under the ledge you will see two slots - one on each side of the forward part of the ledge. Insert a flat-head screw driver and twist (either way) to release the plastic tabs. Once the tabs release you can pull the whole thing loose. Repairman said I'd need to replace the entire chute inside at a cost of nearly $400! Ordered the chute myself for a little over $100. Took me about a half an hour to carefully disassemble the water/ice dispenser and replace with the new one. The job wasn't hard, I'm just not a very "handy" guy but I love a good challenge and am very careful not to pull and pry on things which may break. It was literally only 4 screws that had to be removed and some wiring harnesses holding everything together.... Read more

I ordered the water valve assembly, watched the video and installation was a breeze. What was nice was that this is the EXACT replacement for the existing water valve; there was no need to remove the extended assembly.
