THERMISTOR ASSEMBLY,PTC

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Lg refrigerator wound not start   Steve S. • Peoria , AZ • May 28, 2016

For an emergency fix I installed a 3 in1 kit disabling the original start cap and wiring in the original run cap to the run winding. Ordered the proper PTC and overload from Appliance Parts Pros and installed them 2 weeks later. The original start and run capacitor were good, rewired back to design specs. The original PTC had pins 1,2 and 3, the replacement had 2,3 and 4. Only wiring change was to install the red wire from pin 1 on the original PTC to pin 4 on the new PTC. Read more

Kenmore Controller Compressor
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 216954236

The Compressor Controller is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. It is a component responsible for monitoring and regulating the compressor.

The controller allows the compressor to operate efficiently based on temperature inputs from sensors located throughout the refrigerator and freezer compartments. It controls compressor cycling intervals based on sensor readings in order to maintain optimal cooling.

Symptoms of a faulty controller include:

  • Fluctuating interior refrigerator temperatures
  • Compressor runs continuously without cycling off
  • Compressor fails to turn on at all

This OEM Frigidaire part is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The run capacitor caught fire.   David C. • Hudson , OH • December 22, 2020

After smelling and seeing the smoke I was able to spot the defective parts. Where the run capacitor connects to the control-compressor is where it was burning. So I went to the Appliance Parts Pros website and put in the model number and the diagram of parts come up. I ordered the new parts, the control-compressor, and the run capacitor. Quick shipping. Installed and works ss required. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Controller and capacitor that start the compressor in our freezer failed and burned causing burning plastic smell.   M. H. • Madison , MS • December 08, 2020

An appliance repairman came to diagnose the issue causing the burning smell and the reason the 17- year old Frigidaire freezer was not cooling. He plugged the freezer back in and it immediately flamed up revealing the failed power overload controller. He tested the controller and the attached capacitor and found they had both failed. He quoted $556 to replace the failed parts to resolve the issue. We initially decided the replace the whole freezer given its age, but due to the China virus,... Read more

Kenmore Compressor Kit
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304478809

This compressor kit is made to be used with freezers and refrigerators by several manufacturers. It includes the compressor as well as all small parts associated with it. The compressor is a component that helps move the refrigerant throughout the appliance's system. Temperature sensors indicate when the compressor should run. If the compressor is damaged, it may make strange noises, no longer cool properly, or could begin to overheat. If any of these issues are present, the compressor should be replaced. First, make sure the refrigerator is not connected to a power source. Remove perishable items from the appliance and place them in an icebox, cooler with ice, or another refrigerator. Locate the compressor on the back of the appliance by removing the metal guard. Remove the wire between the compressor and the capacitor before taking off the compressor. Replace this part with the new one by connecting it to the wire and reassembling the appliance. This is a compressor kit for use with refrigerators and freezers made by Crosley, Electrolux, Westinghouse, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Tappan, and Gibson. It is sourced directly from the manufacturer and sold as a single part. This is a genuine OEM replacement part.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Bad compressor   Larry P. • La Center , WA • January 21, 2019

Purchased a replacement COMPRESSOR. The compress or was a replacement for MFG. P/N 5304478809. The compressor was not an exact replacement. There was no port identification so the connections took a lot of time searching the net and then only the suction port was noted. I had to operate the compressor to be sure of the discharge port. The start relay on the original had no power plug as the new one did so had to improvise by cutting the wiring and adding 1/8 push on clips and then sliding on to... Kenmore Refrigerator Compressor
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304507765

The product featured is a Frigidaire refrigerator compressor. The compressor is a vital component for the cooling and freezing process of a refrigerator. A compressor works together with the evaporator in providing the cold air needed to keep everything at the desired temperature. When a compressor fails, this could have an effect that calls for an emergency repair. Losing the compressor function means the refrigerator stops getting cold in both compartments. Prolonging the repair could mean the loss of all the food items stored inside. A faulty compressor may become very loud when it operates. Users may hear a slight clicking sound on a compressor that's entirely out of commission. This is the relay clicking in an attempt to power the compressor. If a compressor does go out, keep the doors of the freezer and refrigerator shut. There's a chance the food can be salvaged if repairs take place fast enough. This compressor is a genuine OEM product and is sourced directly from the manufacturer and is only available as an individual component. Frigidaire, Kenmore, and Maytag refrigerators can be repaired with this component.

Kenmore Compressor Start Relay (Ptc)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP10097204

This PTC start relay mounts on the compressor and briefly powers its start winding to get it running, then drops out. Replacing a weak relay can restore reliable starts and resolve clicking/humming with no cooling.

  • Provides the initial boost to the compressor via a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) element, then opens as it heats
  • Takes the start winding out of the circuit once the compressor is running
  • Typical failure symptoms: compressor won't start, repeated clicking/humming, no cooling, visible heat damage at the relay or connector
  • Direct replacement for the original PTC start device used on applicable models
What's included: 1 PTC start relay Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; allow hot components to cool
  • Access the compressor compartment, remove the cover, and note the relay's orientation; pull the old relay straight off the compressor pins
  • Inspect wiring terminals for heat damage; do not reuse burnt connectors
  • Firmly seat the new relay on the compressor terminals, reinstall the cover, restore power, and verify compressor start

Kenmore Starter (Start Relay)
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 241941007

Starter (start relay) that replaces the compressor/motor start device to help the appliance begin running reliably. Use this starter when the motor fails to spin up or shows hard-start symptoms to restore normal starting behavior. What it does:

  • Provides the initial electrical boost required to start the compressor or motor.
  • Commonly replaced when the compressor hums but won't start, cycles on and off, or the appliance fails to reach proper temperature.
  • Reduces repeated hard-start attempts that can stress the compressor motor.
  • Fits systems that use a separate start relay.
What's included: One starter (start relay). Install notes:
  • Disconnect power (unplug appliance or switch off the circuit breaker) before servicing.
  • Access relay at the compressor/motor area (typically at the rear); remove the old relay and install the new one using the existing mounting and terminals.
  • Handle the compressor area carefully; avoid bending terminals or damaging wiring.

Kenmore Compressor (Refrigerator)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W10160407

This is the refrigerator's sealed-system compressor. It pressurizes and moves refrigerant through the system to remove heat from the cabinet, restoring consistent cooling performance when the original compressor has failed or lost capacity. What it does and common symptoms:

  • Pumps and circulates refrigerant through the evaporator and condenser to remove heat
  • Maintains target temperatures in both fresh food and freezer sections
  • Symptoms of failure can include: no cool/poor cooling, unit warms up after short operation, humming then clicking from the compressor area, or repeated thermal overload trips
  • Runs but not cool effectively when the compressor is weak or internally damaged (after ruling out start components and charge issues)
What's included:
  • 1 compressor
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; sealed-system work involves high pressure and high temperatures
  • Sealed-system repairs require EPA Section 608 certification and specialized tools (gauges, vacuum pump, brazing equipment)
  • Replace the filter-drier, braze connections properly, evacuate to deep vacuum, and charge to the model's specification
  • Related components (start device/overload, run capacitor, controls) are tested before condemning the compressor

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Bad compressor   Harvey K. • Reno , NV • October 10, 2016

Hired a repair professional. This is an expensive fridge so I wanted to repair rather than replace. The estimated cost for the repair was quite high, but at least it was itemized. I went on-line and found Appliance Parts Pros, and bought the major plus one minor part from them. I arranged with my local repair guy to use the parts I bought on-line. RESULT: I saved $370 by buying my own parts, probably could have saved more with a little more effort. Appliance Parts Pros was easy to deal with,... Read more
