I decided to order the, "Speed Control Plate" also as a precaution (Shipping was one price - and it arrived the very next day, Wow! I didn't expect that.) With my screwdriver and good lighting. I fixed it myself! My husband is still in shock. I used forceps to install the, "Speed Control Plate," because I needed something to hold the tension wire - at... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Kitchenaid dishwasher would not complete wash cycle   John M. • Lillian , AL • July 31, 2016

This was a difficult problem to diagnose. Because the machine would start the wash cycle then shut down after a few minutes of running, it appeared that the cause might be a bad thermostat or heating element, but all checked out ok. That led me to believe that the control panel may be the culprit but it also appeared to be working correctly when I ran the diagnostics program. A visual examination of the components found that the door switch electrical connections looked discolored, so I removed... Read more

Kitchenaid Float Switch Kit
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: 8193506

The Float Switch Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It includes the float and the switch mechanism that monitors and controls the water level inside the dishwasher. Causes of a bad float switch can include debris or mineral buildup, wear and tear over time, or electrical failures within the switch mechanism. A malfunctioning float switch can lead to water overfilling, which may cause leaks and inefficient washing performance.

Symptoms of a bad float switch kit include:

  • Dishwasher overfilling with water
  • Water leaks during operation
  • Dishwasher not filling with enough water
  • Error codes related to water levels

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Kitchenaid dishwasher kudp02frss2 leak at float switch at front right of unit   Richard B. • Mahwah , NJ • December 02, 2016

Removed bottom cover, located leak at float switch, removed and replaced float switch kit. The toughest part of the repair was removing the Float & Retainer Assembly (in the interior of the machine tank) which broke when I pushed it back and pulled it straight up as suggested in the service manual. The Float Switch Kit (attached to, and below the float, below and outside the tank) has a folding plastic cover which fastens with plastic clips. If you open the switch kit before removing the... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Intermittent speed control on kitchenaid 7qt stand mixer   Anthony C. • Westminster , CO • November 26, 2014

Unplug the unit from power. Remove decorative aluminum band from motor enclosure by removing single screw at rear of mixer. Remove screws (now exposed) which secure the top half of the motor enclosure. Using a 1/8" punch, tap-out the pin that penetrates the planetary gear cover and the motor shaft (takes some finesse to avoid damage to the painted/coated planetary. It is a tight fit!) This will allow the planetary gear and cover to drop. Now the motor and gear unit can be removed. Do so... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You 14 year old kitchenaid dishwasher wasn't filling with water (only partially) had to add water during cycles   William S. • Annapolis , MD • March 27, 2017

Ordered new inlet water valve and float switch kit. After repairs it now works fine. However the water inlet valve outlet end for fill hose (not water source) and wire connections (supposedly for this unit) were oriented 180 degrees opposite. I had to gently remove the blue plastic valve off the metal support bracket and turn it around and press back in place. Fortunately it appears it was designed for either orientation. Also the solenoid had to be unclipped and also rotated. Again it was... Read more
