Sandi for Model Number WTW8600YW0

My washer is just under 3 years old. I have the whirpool WTW8600YW0. I first noticed it had a hard time starting. I would have to press and hold power button for it to start. This started about a year ago. Recently, it has been really loud on occasion. I thought d/t maybe unbalances. NOW, the screen displays an UL on the control panel and it won't go away. I have tried unplugging, tried running an empty load. When I took it out to look at the back, I noticed a big brown dried up grease puddle that also was sprayed on the dryer. It looks like it leaked from the bottom. Please help! At first I thought suspension d/t UL. But now with he big grease puddle, I am unsure.

Sandi, With the noise and the brown substance underneath the unit, it appears that the tub seal has developed a leak and the bearings have gone out. You would want to replace the tub assembly which is part number W10381078.

I have a Whirlpool cabrio, it was throwing a F51 code which I know is the rps, I changed it, it worked almost through one wash cycle, then it threw the f51 code again. It has a drag in the tub when you try to spin it. I took off the rotor and stator, the shaft turn freely with out the rotor, I put the stator and rotor back on it has a drag when I put the rotor back on, what is the problem here.. lol is there something wrong with the rotor or is it the shaft? I looked over the rotor and don't see any cracks or damage to it. I am just stumped at what to do. I don't want to buy parts that I don't need.

Hello Peggy. The resistance is normal from the magnets. You will need to replace the harness and if it continues, replace the board on the unit.

Mike S for Model Number WTW6500WW1

My Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine is leaking under the tub. When I look under the washing machine while it is operating I see water dripping from what I think is called the rotor. There was no water dripping while it was filling but starting leaking all around the rotor it went into wash cycle. The washer and dryer is in a confined space and before I take them out to inspect I was wondering if the leak is actually the rotor or something above the rotor.

Mike, This issue would be caused by a faulty tub seal. In order to get the tub seal for this unit you would either have to purchase the outer tub W10193886 or the bearing kit W10435302 and the tool to remove the bearing kit W10447783.

Rob, The rotor would most likely not be the cause for the unit not spinning with the unit agitating. You will want to check the RPS sensor and door lock on the unit to make sure that they are not faulty. If you pull the tech sheet from the control panel of the unit and put into diagnostics and make sure that there are no stored error codes. If there are these will direct you to the issue with the unit.

Risa, The "Suds" error code could be due to a poor drain issue, kinked hose, clogged or weak pump or hose, etc. It could also be due to a twist, kink, or clog in the water level air tube, so you may not need a part at all. The washer won't spin, unless there's a proper reading to the water level transducer in the control board.

David for Model Number wtw7800xlo

I ran a auto diagnostic, got a f71 code, checked pressure switch hose and made sure basket was floating manually, and it was. However, after moving tub up and down a few times, it started to stick. Grabbing hold of the tub in a different location I was able to move the tub up and down once again, but it started to stick again. Went into manual diagnostic to the spin test, and got a lot of noise when the tub nearly reached top speed. I then went to the RPS test, and that test failed. Status lights would not light up when I manually rotated the basket. I once again ran a auto diagnostics test. This time I got an f72 code as well as the f71 code. The drain pump is working good, discharge hose correct, lid lock is working. I wasn't able to check resistance at P-5 and P10 at the controller. Didn't think that was an issue seeing that the controllers worked in diagnostics. Unless I have an EEPROM problem. What do you think?

1 Answer

Hello David, The F71 is displayed when the machine/motor control, by analyzing drag on the basket, detects a suds-lock condition, and is steady on while the control then runs a mini cleanout cycle. If the cleanout cycle is unable to correct the over-sudsing problem, the cycle ends and Sd flashes in the display. This may signify: Load is bunched or twisted around agitator. Excessive detergent usage. Basket cannot engage during drain step. Mechanical friction on drive mechanism, not allowing basket to engage. The F72 indicates a Basket Re-engagement Failure. This code flashes when the basket check routine fails to determine if the basket is re-engaged after being disengaged. Is the basket floating? if yes, pump out water. Does basket turn freely? If not, determine cause of friction. This can also be a harness or control issue.

Cabrio, The issue with the crack stator would cause the noise from the unit. This would have been cracked by the bearing being bad and you would want to replace the stator.

Rick, The rotor would not be the issue, a faulty rotor would not allow the washer to run, and or could make a "knocking" noise, with little to no agitator or basket movement. The "slipping gears" noise and the noise in the spin cycle, would indicate a worn out set of tub bearings and seal W10435302 and tool W10447783 you may also want to consider an outer tub assembly W10193886 which would have all the parts you need installed at the factory.
