The Surface Element (240V-2100W) is an OEM part for Bosch cooktops and ranges. It provides consistent, even heating from below pans on the cooktop surface.

Diagnosed by local appliance shop as element. Didn't sound correct due to manner of failure. Also they were charging three times Whirlpool list for the part. Continuity checked element with ohm meter - ok. Replaced switch. Problem solved.
