Replaced the damper control. It took only 10-15 minutes. Since replacement, the clicking noise has stopped. Very happy with the result. However, want to share that there was probably nothing wrong with the original damper other than the original faulty design. The flap opens and closes and believe the clicking noise was the result of plastic against plastic. I determined that the motor that drives the damper valve that allows cold air into the refer was noisy. I ordered the replacement part from AppliancePartsPro.com. It arrived within 3 days and I changed the units out, which took about 10 minutes total. All is quiet with the refer now. Read more

I went on line and read your advice page. Based on that, I removed the damper assembly (six screws counting the miserable light fixture) and found the damper door broken as predicted. I went back to your page and ordered the new part. Nice breakdown to get number. After that, I disassembled the damper assembly, found that the ABS plastic damper had broken from the actuator probably as a result of fatigue from cycling back and forth for twelve years. The evaporator fan had stopped working and caused the entire area around it to ice up. No air flow was getting from the freezer to the fridge. I replaced the damper control (it was rusted, not sure if it was workign or not) and the evaporator fan. It was a very quick repair once I diagnosed the problem. This issue was with a refrigerator that we acquired with a house we bought. The freezer was cold, making ice well, overall doing great. The refrigerator was not cold however. I had this issue with our own refrigerator in the past, and it was related to the defrost fan not working and the coils freezing up. However this refrigerator's coils had no ice buildup. It started with clicking sounds for about 10 seconds at random times throughout the day. eventually the clicking sounds were gone and the temperature in the fresh food section was dropping below freezing. Removed & replaced baffle. Make sure you have a 1/4" nut driver. You can't see the nut that is at a 90 degree angle from the front of the refrigerator. There is a second nut hidden behind the air filter at the back of the compartment as well. Once you remove these two, the plastic housing comes off & the assembly (which is mostly made of Styrofoam) is easily replaced. Read more

I have used AP Pros.com in the past. They've always been helpful. I used the live chat feature to describe the symptoms (freezer was fine, fridge was too cold, water filter/line frozen) and she made recommendations and showed me exploded view PDF's of the location of each part.
