Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leaky direct drive pump   Thomas P. • Raleigh , NC • April 09, 2014

With much trepidation, I Googled leaking washing machines and deduced that our problem was likely (but not certain) that we needed to replace the direct drive washer pump. After viewing the AppliancePartsPros video, I decided that ordering the $30 part was worth the risk (vs a $120 plus service call). The pump arrived w/in 2 days and my wife and I experienced an enjoyable bonding experience installing it :). But it's now working great and there is no leak. ... Kudos to AppliancePartsPros for a... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dishwasher stopped draining water the pump was running (i could hear the noise) but water would not go away   Evgueni P. • San Mateo , CA • February 08, 2015

I've opened sump housing to check for clogging but it was clean. When I removed check valve to inspect it I've found out that the round part of the valve was missing so I figured it might've blocked the water exit at drain hose or something like that. So I pulled the dishwasher out to get a full access to drain hose connector and the pump. Upon disconnecting the drain and checking its connector I indeed found the round piece totally blocking the hose and acting as a seal. I removed the piece... Read more

Washer won't drain or pump keeps running? This drain pump circulates and removes water during wash cycles. Common DIY repair, typically 15-30 minutes.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Pump was getting jammed intermittently   Christopher G. • Mc Kees Rocks , PA • April 26, 2024

The original pump was getting jammed intermittently, more and more often. I cleaned it out, but that didn't help the jamming. So I ordered a new pump. Have your new pump on hand and look at it to see how it attaches. The original pump, a different part number than the replacement, lasted about 7 years of almost everyday use, with multiple loads each day. My washer model Maytag MHW5500FW0 has the pump at the bottom back, in an awkward position. This took me about 2 hours due to the awkward... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Loud noise when washer was in a drain cycle   Robert G. • Clayton , NC • January 03, 2016

There was a loud noise from my washer during the drain cycle. (The washer seemed to drain just fine.) It was pretty easy to determine that the noise was coming from the drain pump. (Which for my washer is behind the front lower inspection panel on the right side front.) I inspected the outside of the pump for any physical damage and verified no issues with the pump or the mounts. Everything seemed ok. I then checked the drain pump filter(You will need something to catch water if you do... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The dishwasher filled but did not wash.   James M. • Norman , OK • September 02, 2023

The water just sat in bottom of the tub, but the dishes never got wet. The water would drain out at the end of the cycle. I took a chance that it was the circulation pump and not the control panel since everything else seemed to be working. I replaced the circulation pump &motor and the problem was solved. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leak at Kitchenaid dishwasher diverter motor.   Dan B. • Wentzville , MO • September 10, 2023

Pulling the dishwasher, it was obvious we had a slow leak under it. We had a slow leak from the diverter motor area in the sump. Sure enough, it looked like the gasket around a shaft had to be the culprit. The gasket was attached to the sump assembly, or the motor. We took a chance and ordered a new sump assembly for a mere $90 and went for it. All of the trays had to come out. The lower spray arms. Then the distribution runs to the middle rack arms and upper rack arms. Finally, the original... Read more
