My Mom's Kenmore had a burnt plastic smell after a thunderstorm. Found motor capacitor had melted through, dumping liquid platic "spaghetti" onto the insulation blanket under the washer. I was actually getting an error code for the shifter and speed sensor. I ordered a shifter, which included the speed sensor, and replaced that part but the washer still didn't work. I originally thought it to be my capacitor. But after installing the new one my machine still wouldn't wash, upon further inspection the hose that connects to the water level indicator on the control panel had popped a loose. I reconnected it and my washer is working just fine now. So try and do a complete inspection before spending unnecessary money ($125) like I did. Read more
