Well the range was only 5 years old and there was a recall around the time of purchase I wasn't aware of for the exact problem - elements turning on by themselves etc. regardless Sears insisted that it wasn't the same issue. After numerous screwups by Sears Repair in changing appointment times, they finally assessed issue and they claimed they had never seen this problem before.
